The thing is yes WE do watch the News, but its obvious that my parents dont watch it otherwise they would have told us a whole different story about the UK!!

We have been over here for just over 4 years now and if u lump all the time my husband has worked into one section it would only amount 2 just over 18 months all told in total!!!! Thats not a lot of time 2 save up for our retirement which this country has forced upon us!!! Hell, my husband is only 51 and I am only 47 for crying out loud!!!! Firms only want 2 employ young inexperienced upstarts so that they can pay them less and so hence the employers can keep all the money in profits and commissions 2 themselves!! TOTAL GREED!!!!! They dont want 2 pay higher wages 2 people with experience and more reliability than these young morons!!!

Then not 2 mention that over here in the UK, Christmas starts here in October and doesnt end untill around April/May the following year, so thats a lot of wasted time(which the UK is expert at doing) of unemployment, not 2 mention loss in industry and manufactoring time!!!! No wonder nothing ever gets done here and things like construction projects are ALWAYS behind schedule!!!!!

The thing is, theres lots of Industrial estates and parks here but really theres nothing coming out of them industrial-wise!!!

Gold with the greatest respect you are talking rubbish, I own a business in the UK and with hard work and commitment this country supports me. I have had to be commited and make sacrifices but i dont expect anything handed to me on a plate. The tax situation here with the right advice does give you opportunities. It is simply a matter of commitment and hard work rather than sitting on your fat ass waiting for someone to give it to you. Hard workers are always wanted and as an employer I take offence at you comment that business owners only think of profit. I employ 7 people and of my 4 engineers 3 of them are experienced guys with 20 yrs in the game. My business grows on the reputation for good work and experinced engineers.
Having said that as a tax payer it would probably cost me less in the long run just to pay for your ticket to go to the US now. wave Seeya

As an American newly arrived to UK, there are quite a bit of adjustments that had to be made, not for the worse nor the better just different. I embrace these differences as a cultural learning experience and look forward to my time her. I think a lot in life truly depends on your atttitude in stituations (glass half full/empty and all that stuff) make or break you. twocents

CrozzaUK

A lot of the right wing, daily mail reading population in the UK believe that the new licensing laws will acheive nothing but the rapid decline of morality and living standards here in the uk. Just as they see all imigrants as benefit grabbing ethnics, all gays as depraved and HIV ridden, and all youths as lazy and repulsive. Ultimately they'd like nothing more than to hole themselves up in their "safe suburban pockets", and not have to deal with the harsh realitiesof the country they live in.

In their sad self serving small little worlds, paying taxes is an insult, and the idea of helping those dealt a rough hand in life is a big NO NO.
Gold319, im sorry you so resent paying higher taxes, I however am proud of the fact that in this country we at least try to support those worse off than ourselves by paying higher taxes, not just sweep them under the carpet. Poverty in our country is a reality, not just a notion of life that we find disgusting and so try to ignore.

24 hour licensing will in reality only serve to provide bars and pubs with more flexibility. My experience of working in bars is that there are those who will drink as much as they can until they collapse in a pool of vomit and wet themselves, or go out and fight random strangers, but the large majority of people simply enjoy drink, are well aware of their own limitations, and will quietly and peacefully make their way home when they are ready. Yes it will be abused, but i also believe it will help aleviate alot of the 11 & 2 O'clock taxi / fast food rushes that so often result in mindless violence.

There will always be drunks and brain dead idiots fighting the night away, this if a welcome step however to the rest of us being treated normally, and not like the idiots we're normally taken to be by government.

From today here in the UK, all pubs and other drinking establishments will now b given free reign 2 stay open 24/7, so that people can go and drink whenever they want!!! Mind U, that all depends on whether pub owners and managers of bars, etc. were willing 2 apply for new Licences!!

Good God!!!!! Life was Hell here enough as it was before this, now this country is gonna decsend into total anarchy and complete degeneration!!! This is gonna make a majority of the British population develope even more animalistic behaviours than they already have!!!

Whoever passed this bill through Parliament should b executed at dawn!!!! nod nod

I agree totally , I am from Blackpool origonaly and i am going back home for christmas and not looking forward to it. when i lived there i hardly ever went out on a night there as it was bad enough then with the riot vans out on a saturady night , its full of drunks and fuckups at the best of times.
The town centre is getting to be a no go area as it is can you imagine what is going to be like in the season with 24hr drinking.
England is going to the dogs mad

But please people dont pull England to bits as it does have some good points not many at the moment but there is some.

Our flat/apartment is on a main high street and so we get 2 hear everything!! Then at night we hear all the sirens from all the emergency vehicles!! sad sad sad sad
