Is it okay to be a scrooge as long as I'm still into the holiday spirit giving crap? So I started my Christmas shopping today, but I just want to give the people their presents now because they've both had rough months and I know they'd both be very very happy with what I got them. Plus, I don't wanna wrap the stuff. And I don't want to put up a tree this year. Such a mess. And it takes up room. I just wanna get people nice things for the next month and a half and skip Christmas this year. I enjoy doing nice things for people, but sheesh. The pressure. Too old, too tired.
Anyone else feeling scroogy this year?

I know exactly how you feel. I still have Halloween I need to put up. it's such a task to put a tree and lights up. Sometimes I wonder if it's worth it since we don't spend Christmas here or have kids.
Pressure tells me I have to put decorations up outside since I go all out for Halloween. I don't want them thinking I only like killer clowns and death! I don't think of it as scroogy as long as you have love in your heart. Much Love, LoLinex Faith

Ex-Moderator | I'm always a scrooge. I hate Xmas!! I've come a long way in finally being able to enjoy my friends' annual Xmas party. (I just had to declare it a time for me to dress up in costume and find the right outfit. But hey, it worked.) But the rest can all go away! |

not the genuine spirit of the thing, but the mess that goes with it.

Make your Christmas the Christmas you want.

True, since i'm not a child anymore, X-Mas is more like just a day off from work than an exciting time. The only fun I have is when I put in the James Brown "Santa Claus Go Straight to the Ghetto" cd/tape and go X-Mas shopping at Banana Republic, or Old Navy... I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

don't you feel a pressure to make your christmas the christmas other people want? Yes, all the time. So many people get wrapped up in what they think they SHOULD do for Christmas that the holiday gets lost and isn't enjoyable. If your posts are any reflection of your true character, (and I really think they are), you are a very giving person. Even if you don't celebrate Christmas in the "traditional" sense, you seem to have the spirit. I am a firm believer that December 25th isn't the only day that love should be shared between family and friends. If you want to give your gifts early, do so. Let the receipiants know that you're doing this because your heart tells you to. (Put in your own words of course). Then if you just can't stand it, do something smaller scaled for the actual day. I'm firmly planted in denial

co-sign I am shocked with myself. In spite of being a broke-ass and having NO IDEA how I will afford any shopping this season, I am still super excited for the whole Xmas deal. As long as I get my CD burner back in order, I will be having to be more creative this year with gifties. I think I'm excited to do all the decorating and get in the right mood cos this year (for me) is gonna have to rock on all fronts to keep me from being crabby about not being able to give the THINGS I want to give...

Anyone else feeling scroogy this year? I am with you- I feel the same way. I hate to shop so Christmas is really annoying for me. If ppl told me what they wanted I would be more then happy to order it for them and have it shipped to them, I hate to wrap also! Oh- I am getting exhausted and tired just thinking of it. My husband & I do not have children but everyone else in our families have them. It seems like we get the short end of the stick. I would rather spend time together and enjoy loved ones instead of running around buying useless gifts. BAH HUMBUG!!

Actually, I am looking foward to christmas this year. I am already planning on putting up the tree, or at least starting to, right after thanksgiving. I am thinking of putting lights up outside and what not. However I am often very bah-humbugish. I don't have kids. Don't want them. I do enjoy the true spirit of the season however. As long as you don't get to focused on the commershilism of the deal, it can be a fun time. I think the trick is not to make it into more life work. News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.
Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so. You have those internalized issues because you want to, you like to, stop.

I always get grouchy thinking of all the places I'm expected to be (gotta love having divorced parents that are both re-married, plus my husband's family) I just hate that something always has to give. It's not that I don't *want* to see everyone, I just wish it didn't have to be all packed into 2 days.
I am DREADING going to my in-law's this year. My mother-in-law started smoking again, I mean...that will be the same as last year, and I got a migraine then. Between the smell of the house and the smell of the smoke (she lights up at the freakin' table before everyone is done eating for pete's sake!) but this year I have another little being iside me that doesn't need that anymore than I do I hate that I'm dreading it so much and probably making it worse than it really is...

I hate to say it but I kind of just go through the motions. Thankgsgiving makes me sad, Christmas makes me sad. It may have to do with all the Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer Rankin Bass shows. They were sad!!!!! I call it the Rudolph Complex.
