Trying not to turn on the heat

Its getting cold up here in Michigan but I want to save as much money as possible this season and I havent turned on the heat yet. Im going to use my fireplace and wear thermal underwear for as long as I can. lol

Being in Central FLorida, the heating situation really isn't much of a concern.

The windchill was 5 below this morning. It was over 60 degrees less than a week ago. There is now snow on the ground. It turned winter overnight here. neutral

As for heating bills - my landlord pays them all. mr.green

Ive had the apartment managment folks come through and winterize my apartment. Somehow, I dont think it will be enough to prevent me from paying ridiculous heat bills.

Fine. A sunny day with a light to moderate northerly wind and afternoon and evening seabreezes.

mad I know, they do that shit to old people. It's fucking insane! pissed Old people get colder too! sad If you go over to her place or if somebody you know does, have them check out if the radiators have those dials on them where you set the temperature. If they do, have them screw the dials off. That'll make it warm and nice. wink thumbs up!

I have the opposite problem, lol. I can't get my heater to shut off. We have boiler heaters in our building, that are always on from about October to March. Even when you turn the thermostat dial down to zero, it's still giving off some heat. On warm days, my place feels like 100 degrees, and I hate running my air conditioner when the heat is running at the same time because it seems like such a waste of money.

Turn down the thermostat @ night and when we aren't home (not majorly, just 4-5 degrees)

I just made several corn bags to keep my feet warm/great for shoulder/neck/back pain biggrin

Kinda like a heating pad/hot water bottle. You make a "pillow" filled with whole kernal feed corn and heat it up in the microwave. It has been saving my pregnant self w/migraines nod They are SUPER easy to make and I'm giving away a bunch for Chrsitmas gifts (with cute covers you can remove for washing biggrin)

Nothing. Seattle weather is pretty mild (I think it went a few degrees below freezing once last winter), electricity is very cheap here, and I live in a new, energy-efficient building.

However, my heater can be a bit overpowering at times, so I'll sometimes leave it off for a while.

Since I live in an apt, I do not have gas heat. I have the same bill every month from the power company. I signed up for that so I wouldn't have crazy high bills this winter or during the summer. (being in south summer puts a hurting on my power bill with that AC!)
