Any other "Thanxgiving orphans" 'round here, besides me?

as ya'll know, thanxgiving is next thursday...and as always, i'm not gonna be doing jack-dookie. i don't have the money to travel down to my dad's house, i've no relatives up here in minneapolis (that i know of), and chances are i'll be too broke to even buy so much as a turkey pot pie (i actually can't stand pot pies anymore...just makin an example there) for thanxgiving dinner because i still gotta pay off the rest of my back rent with my next check so that'll eat up the majority of my money.

anybody else here gonna be spending turkey day alone? mac'n'cheese

i wish i was spending it alone. thanksgiving is my least favorite holiday of the year, and my family doesn't seem to realize i'm not exactly the biggest fan of a day where you're supposed to eat meat and watch sports on tv all day.

i'd rather just stay home and write all day, and save the airfare for christmas presents... "but it's tradition" . sigh

yeah--i remember spending every thanxgiving at my grandma's house, but i couldn't ever stand to be around my family. i'd just make myself a plate, go upstairs where no one else was, and watch nickelodeon or whatever else was on. i was the invisible girl. lol

same here! i'd eat with everyone else because i had to, but once i could get away, my nose was in a book somewhere away from everyone else. my only other options were to watch sports with the men or sit with the women and listen to them talk about their jobs. yawn-o-rama.

4 places? omfg man...my family's different, we usually all just went to my grandma's house. it was all super-centralized because nobody else wanted to cook their own dinners, i guess. lol

No offense, but it's your family. Can't you try to enjoy them for one day? I used to take my family for granted, but now I make sure that every second counts because they are my only family and won't be here forever.

And Handz....do you have any friends you can eat dinner with? I feel so sad for people that spend the holidays alone sad

I always spend ALL holidays alone. I cook for me and my Grandmother and I make extra food in case a lonely person wants a nice dinner. Come on over Dansa!!!!

the only family member that i really get along with is my dad, he and i are really close...everyone else in my family i either don't know/haven't seen enough or simply can't stand (long story).

the 'your family won't be there forever' caution has already come and gone, which makes thanksgiving even more depressing to me. these days, my family consists of a grand total of two people, neither of which enjoy cooking. it's just depressing. i've tried to talk them into devaluing thanksgiving just a little bit and they even agree with me, but they're both concerned about what the people they work with would say if they said they didn't celebrate thanksgiving. so we persist.

Well that stinks, I'm sorry. I wasn't saying that in a demeaning way or anything, I was just more curious as to why you felt that way. Christmas at my dad's can be dreadful, his wife is such a bitch and a hag. But I just bring a bottle of wine and keep feeding it to them. It makes everything much more pleasurable for everyone when they have a little buzz!

christmas is always good, because at least there's gift giving and toys to play with and movies to watch. thanksgiving is depressing because nobody likes to cook but me and i'm not allowed to cook because "i'm the man". it's weird. i'll be glad when it's next month.

I'd invite you to my family's thingy but I wouldn't put ANYONE through that. For real. I can deal cause it's my family but, well, I just wouldn't do that to anyone else.
