My father was the same! He hated those pesky leaves on his lawn, and usually it was me who was sent out there to pick them all up. I think he was a little obsessed looking back. He'd be out there with the sprinkler at 11pm and would be out in a short sleeve polo shirt at 8am on a winter morning mowing. I'm turning into him too, all the eccentricities, the foibles, the peculiar mannerisms.
I was happy when the tree was chopped right down, but it was the back garden that took forever. ... [Edited 11/13/05 16:50pm]

When I was renting a tiny house from a Chinese family in Vancouver, their grandpa used to rake the leaves from my damn roof every morning around seven. Lovely to wake up to slow scratching sounds coming from everywhere and a toothless smile on the other side of the skylight window.

we found out (after buying our first house, of course) that we both hate doing yardwork. so our next place will definitely be a townhouse!
