Beyond Boundaries Did anybody else watch this awe-inspiring show?
It was about a group of disabled people crossing Nicaragua. In the process they crossed jungles, climbed a volcano and other hills/mountains, did a river crossing and generally showed us able-bodied people where determination and perserverance can get you. A couple had to pull out; one was a paraplegic girl in a wheelchair who had lost the use of her lower body just 18 months ago and another was a guy who'd been pushing her wheelchair through the jungle even though his artificial leg had rubbed his stump so much that he was in pain for every step and a large wound had developed. Another guy made it to the top of a volcano by crawling up when the rest of the team decided they couldn't carry his wheelchair up and get to the top themselves. This volcano, incidentally, was really high. The locals said they'd need 10 days to get to the top and back - they did it in two! The girl who had lost both her legs at birth made it through to the end, as did the guy who was born without the use of his legs and was also in a wheelchair. It was amazing how the blind guy managed to climb the volcano, not knowing where to put his feet and having to be told about the steep drops by his team. I thought it was absolutely awesome and I hope it gets shown around the world, because it was ground-breaking television and I think will do a lot of good in changing peoples perceptions about people who are disabled. If it's repeated and you didn't watch it, please try and catch it. I really can't say enough about this programme. http://www.bbc.co.uk/ouch...eek3.shtml | |
