they ruined Myers' look after Halloween 2 by not using the painted William Shatner mask, instead he looks like Data from Star Trek.... did they start using a Data mask?

Unfortunately, too many people judge this flick by the lame sequels. To me, its a sin to compare this one to The Curse of Michael Myers.

Actually, the second film is decent (not great), the fourth is creepy, and H2O ain't bad. All the rest are craptacular. It pisses me off that 5 and 6 had to be so bad, as 4 really set up a good storyarc that could have really been something.

That's what I'm sayin'! And The Curse of Michael Myers is the worst of the worst! Even the so-called producer's cut that - by some fan standards - is supposedly better than the theatrical cut is hokey at best.

I never bothered with the Producer's cut. I had a hard enough time sitting through the regular version! So sad that it was Pleasance's last film.

Almost as abysmal was Halloween: Resurrection. H20 had wrapped things up nicely, and there just didn't need to be another movie. Oh, and killing off Laurie Strode? Bad move!

As I understand it, the original mask was lost, and they had to make a new one from scratch (and no one could find a Shatner mask).

Big chunks of H20 were re-filmed because the director was unhappy with the mask (check out the trailer to see the first mask they used), and he at least made an attempt to get it closer to the original.

Of course, some have pointed out that Myers would have to have gotten a new mask after part 2, since it burned up (I believe Halloween 4 actually showed him stealing a new mask. Help me out, RipHer2Shreds. I haven't watched that one in many years).

Lord, I know way too much about this. lol Yes, he took a new one in H4. And they no longer have the original mold for the William Shatner mask. It was gone before they even filmed Halloween II. That's why all the masks since then haven't looked as good. H20 actually used a CGI mask in at least one scene, and it's blatantly obvious.

Really? Wow, I've never noticed that (although, I'll be looking for it now, so it will probably drive me crazy everytime I watch it from here on out).

Has anyone ever tried to do a reconciliation of IV, V and CoMM with the mythology of H20 and Resurrection? Me, I just ignore all of them but the first, II and H20, and watch IV as a cool alternative direction for the series (if it weren't for IV tying into V and CoMM, I would view it as canon as well). Just curious.

That was Halloween 5. The dude came in, shot up the police station, and apparently set Myers free (as his cell door was seen hanging open). That was it. The movie ended after that, and the lame-ass follow-up really did a crappy job of resolving these dangling plot-lines.

this is such a good movie. you don't need to spend millions on special effects to keep your audience scared. (remember THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT ? wasn't that just scaaaaary)

HALLOWEEN is so good because of the music: i even bought the soundtrack and i get the creeps listening to it.

There are fans that have tried to tie them together, but I haven't the time or interest in trying to follow their logic. I'm the same as you - the original, part 2 and H20 are all the storyline I need. But if you're interested in seeing the producer's cut of 6, send me a note. It's entertaining. Maybe not in the ways they intended it to be, but it is. lol

Cool. I was just curious about that. I don't really care about it, but I thought it would be amusing to see how people get creative with plot holes and what-not.

Now, the producer's cut of 6? hmmm A part of me is damned curious, but another part of me is afraid of the pain I experienced when watching the theatrical cut. I just remember thinking it was SOOOOO obvious that Donald had died during the filming, and they were trying desperately to make the footage they had fit in with a hastily rewritten script. Is it worth watching, or will it just make me relive the pain???

The storyline is entirely different. They re-worked it so much for the theatrical release, that it's almost a different film. There's some really corny shit (they try to stop Michael with a pile of runes which just makes me laugh so friggin' hard!), but it's amusing. Whether or not you enjoy it depends on how much you enjoy watching train wrecks. I can easily send it out to you if you're curious.

The first movie to ever really scare me remains to this day one of my very favorite movies - Halloween. John Carpenter's second feature film became an instant classic that has since, sadly, been lumped into the same category as the inferior and innumerable imitators that have followed it (including a slew of its own bad sequels).

Cinematographer Dean Cundey would later go on to work with Steven Spielberg and garner an Oscar nomination. His work behind the lens in Halloween is essential to its success; the equal use of both foreground and background imagery was crucial to create suspense as well as making Spring in southern California look as close to Midwest autumn as possible.

I've geeked out enough about this one (and believe me, I could go on). The last three images were filmed exclusively for the 1981 NBC broadcast of Halloween. After editing the film to make it safe for network televsion, the Peacock asked John Carpenter (who was already on hand for the filming of Halloween II) if he would film an extra 12 minutes of scenes to pad the trimmed running time. With the help of the original cast members, he filmed three more scenes to be included in the television cut.

I like how his mask used to just appear out of nowhere like that. lol oh yeah....what ever happened to Jamie's Baby? She would've been Micheal's only motivation to kill. A while back I heard a rumored storyline that involved Dr. Loomis's son in Halloween 9. I haven't heard anything since, so I don't think it's gonna happen, but you know horror movies... anything's possible and after the first two movies, nothin ever makes any sense lol

Blasphemy! John Carpenter is turning over in his grave! Michael Myers will find you, slowly walk up behind you and stab you multple times. The only semi-decent thing about that movie was the catchy "Silver Shamrock" song. uhm, you do know John Carpenter is alive and well, don't you? lol

If memory serves me right, Carpenter had nothing to do with most of the Halloweens. He only did the first and second ones, and was a co-writer of H20 (along with Debra Hill, who wrote the first Halloween). Carpenter didn't want to go on with Halloweens 3-6, but was forced to by the rest of the producers. I remember Moustapha Akkad as being especially pushy - can someone say nay or yay on this one? lol

RipHer2Shreds, if you haven't already, check out Robert C Cumbow's book, Order in the Universe. It's all about Carpenter's films and is quite a good read! nod

Actually, I didn't know if Carpenter was alive or not, nor how well he may be, but surely he would croak and then turn over in his grave if he knew that Halloween 3 was considered a "good" movie by anyone! lol
Yes, Carpenter had very little if anything to do with the Halloween movies other than 1,2 and H2O.

Carpenter had nothing to do with H20. He received writing credit (along with the late Debra Hill), because he wrote the original characters that they were based on. They'd asked him to write and/or direct it, but her turned it down. He didn't feel like there was anywhere else to do with the series. And I'm sure he'd be fine if anyone liked Halloween III - he produced it! lol His original idea for sequels was more along the lines of III. A different film each year - or couple of years - that was Halloween-themed and not necessarily with Michael Myers.
