I had my laptop stolen I had my laptop stolen in the middle of the week. Taken from my bedroom. I think they got in through my window. Luckily they didn't take anything else. The bad news is I haven't got any insurance on it and it's just another thing I didn't want to replace. Not been a good year what with my new mobile phone also being stolen in Amsterdam.
Any idea where I can get a good one for quite cheap? | |

www.newegg.com
or www.half.com (though this can be risky. At least with newegg the return policy is as close to no-hassel as you get.) | |

If my laptop was stolen the biggest loss would be all the stuff I have on it; pictures, stories, screenplays, etc etc. Did you have anything irreplacable on the harddrive? | |

Depending on what you use it for, you may want to stay away from Celeron processors. The bus speed on those suck compared to the Pentium processors. However, if you're not doing anything too intensive on it, a Celeron is okay. | |

heres the best dell offer at the moment - dell offers change like the weather, u need 2 keep on top of it and be patient 2 get the best deals, but this aint bad
----- Dell Inspiron 6000 for £494 inc. !! The code is NPUK5 - N10605A Price quoted in the offer is £541 inc VAT + Delivery. Spec Includes: Intel Centrino 1.6 GHz Processor 768 MB RAM 40 GB HD CD-RW/DVD player BUT if you - upgrade to a DVD +/- - reduce the RAM to 512 AND - reduce warranty to 1 year Europe-wide (this is the key 2 getting a good deal) you get the following price: £494 inc. Which is a very good price for a Centrino-based 15.4 widescreen laptop with 512 RAM and DVD re-writer. The only real downside is this has a shared intel graphics card which isn't too hot for gaming (you can upgrade though). This PC was £590 inc. a couple of weeks ago with 1024 MB RAM, a 1.73 processor, and 60GB Hard drive, which is probably a better deal - if and when it comes up again! when u r putting 2gether dell deals, if u look carefully u will c u can reduce the price by adjusting the warranty to 90 day collect and return. when upgrading however it usually adds on a lot 4 xtras, so u have 2 wait until something comes up that u want. also, the free carraige deals r on and off frequently, so u have 2 wait till u get free carraige as that saves £57 ----- as 4 the celly comments, unless ure doing gaming or something processor intensive, don't worry about this. as u asked on the org and didnt state a preference, i presume that u just want 2 go online and type/spreadsheets/etc, maybe a bit of gaming, just general tasks, so u dont need 2 worry 2 much, even the cheapest new pc will handle all that. most HDs start around 40gig these days, most processors around 1.3gig upwards, the more RAM the better, 256 is a bit skimpy, much better off with 512mb, unless ure doing some heavy processing, dont worry 2 much about getting anything over that as u can upgrade in the future. dells memory upgrade prices bear no relation 2 retail value, online stores can supply the components very cheaply, and its easy 2 install (u will prolly b able 2 find some1 u know that can do it 4 u if ure unsure). there r also mobile processors like celeron M (mobile), but also some laptops come with standard desktop cpus which eat up batteries. if u r using the laptop plugged in2 the mains, this wont b a problem, but on the move u will b pushed 2 b able 2 watch a dvd on the train b4 the batteries run out. if u want 2 use on the move, also check how long the batteries last. 2 hours is normal 4 a cheap laptop, but i've seen less than that with some deals | |
