MY POOR, LITTLE GIRL.

I've been up since 4.30 this morning.....so I hope my spelling mistakes aren't too bad here. confused
My daughter woke up crying and complaining about a sore throat. She wouldn't swollow anything, so we rushed her to the hospital and they discovered she has tonsillitis. sad
The doctor showed them to me and they look like a a large puching bag at the moment. So she's getting her tonsils out later today. (Thank god for private health insurance pray)
I had to leave my wife at the hospital, with her, and I'm here at work at the moment letting the family know what's going on.
I know she'll be alright and these things are a very common occurance, but I still feel helpless. sad

Anyway....I'll let you know how everything goes later on today.

sad MG, there's nothing more grounding than having your child sick and feeling like there's nothing you can do to eleviate the pain or discomfort...(and I have a childhood history of tonsillitus, I know how hard that can be as a child.. confused )

Prayers for Mia's health... hug

Poor little Mia comfort

She'll be okay mate I'm sure, especially when the icecream kicks in. biggrin

My daughter went for allergy testing yesterday and it confirmed that she is severely allergic to cashew nuts, wallnuts and Brazillian nuts. We are talking potentially fatal allergy if ingested. She's also allergic to dustmites, dogs, cats, some grasses etc.

She has to have an epi-pen with her at all times it is potentially so bad. Lucky she is 8 now and sensible enough to know not to eat those nuts but i fear that someone will give her a biscuit, cake, sweet or something that will contain nuts. It's made me a nervous wreck. sad

Be glad that she is having them out as a child. I was 19 when I finally had mine out. My parents kept waiting when I was a kid even though I was chronically sick with tonsilitis. I got so sick when I was 19 that my dr finally decided that I had to have them out ASAP. So I did, boy did that suck!
I did not get to have ice cream or jello either. I had problems with my jaw afterwards from the blocks and due to complications during the surgery so I could not open my mouth enough to eat ice cream or jello and the smell or thought of food made me sick to my stomach for a long time. I still remember the surgery like it was yesterday and it was 15 yrs ago.
Surgeries like that are much better for children to endure.
I am glad tht you had it taken care of instead of ignoring it like my parents did. I am still mad that they did not take care of it like the dr's suggested all of my childhood.
Good luck and a speedy recover to your daughter.

Better out now than in later life.

I had tonsillitis this year and it was awful. I was coughing up lumps of rancid yellow flesh for a week. It was like my throat was rotting away. Trying to smoke was a nightmare.

She'll be fine in a few weeks or so. hug

bkw you're scaring me. eek Maybe you can get her an allergy bracelet or something - so if she DOES ingest some nuts, they will know what's causing the trouble?
I mean, like, where is the sun?

When I was 6 I had to have my tonsils out. Years later I went to the doctor and he was checking my throat and he mentioned that I have tonsilitis. I told him about when I was 6. The doctor told me tonsils grow back eek

I remember my dad having his tonsils out, the operation and recovery is far worse for an adult. Kids bounce back pretty quick.
Mia will be back to normal in no time.

We ALL have tonsillitis at our place right now, and eye infections. I need to put a biohazard sign on our door mad

Thanks everyone! razz
I think I'm in a worse state than her at the moment. lol
Anyway....we're waiting on a throat specialist to come and see her. He'll make the final decision on whether they'll take them out or not now.
She's hooked up to an IV and watching The Wiggles. Thank god for The Wiggles. pray

I'll let you know how it all goes, but she'll be staying in the hospital for at least tonight.
