it's unpleasant and drawn out. almost lingered upon, in fact. I really didn't like the movie, to be honest. and i really don't get this whole Monica Belucci thing. I actually think she's pretty ugly.

Well, 'not beautiful'.
Ugly's a bit unfair. | |

Anyone else catch this? sorry but it's a Belgian film. And I think it's a good one, disturbing and disgusting, but a good one. It's for the best they tell the story backwards. It wouldn't be bearable the other way around. /edd

It's not realy the rape scene that's that disturbing, but the guy getting killed by a fire estinguisher in a gay leather bar is somewhat more difficult to absorb. But the image is very balancing at the time. /edd

Ugly's a bit unfair. Really? I find her attractive. She looked hot in The Matrix.

Whereas the rape scene is just so....protracted.

The rape scene is just one 10 minute long continuous shot. After the rape scene there are lots of nude shots of Monica and Vince Cassell lounging around their apartment (since it's told backwards, this all takes place before she gets raped). If you are in love with Monica then I suggest you see it.

Indeed, you're right there. That's one of the things why I find a very good movie. The guy dies in a horrible way, but it's quick, it's over. He doesn't know it, He didn't even see it comming. The girl on the other hand, get's raped. The scene goes on like forever. But that's what it is with rape, It goes on for ever, You'll never be the same again, You can't erase it from your mind.

the thing about the rape scene to me is that i don't really remember the details of what happened in the scene, but it was so long that i can remember perfectly what the underpass looked like in which the scene was filmed. i think the way that movie was filmed, it lingered on that setting for so long before and after, even if you don't remember the violence, you remember the fear that the dark underpass represents. really genius in a vile kind of way.

The acting is horrible, they even look into the camera. Next to that, I hate it when the only remarkable fact about a movie is that it is shocking in a disgusting way. [Edited 10/6/05 11:42am]

[Edited 10/6/05 11:42am] well well well, I was wrong, It's French http://www.nord-ouest.com...eversible/ Only be ashamed to be Belgian after seeing the movie hotel Rwanda http://www.hotelrwanda.com/intro.html there you have a reason to be ashamed, especially when they explain in a very short way where the diffirence between HUTU and TUTSI comes from. I was very ashamed then. not after irreversible, not at all even if it's French. /edd

I just read a review that said that the guy that gets his head bashed in is not the rapist but someone that they mistake for the rapist. If this is so, then im really feeling sick now.

Yes, that was the big twist in the movie. The real rapist was standing next to the guy that got beaten up sort of in shock/awe at the whole situation. Hope that didn't spoil it for anyone.

Now you present me with a dilemma, Part of me wants to watch it again to see this fact but its just so toxic a movie. What do I do?

But that was part of why this movie was so disturbing. Vincent Cassell's character and his friend were so close to finding the real rapist, but he got away. Justice was never served. And how interesting/ironic was it that the best friend who was sort of a pacifist was the one who beat up the wrong guy?
