Hellbent Anyone seen this movie yet? It's in limited release right now. It's being billed as the first gay slasher. Surely it couldn't be the first. But even if it is the "first gay slasher" it's just as bad as the last few slashers I saw for the breeder crowd. I hope the 2nd, 3rd and all subsequent gay slashers are better than this. I've seen better production values on an episode of Degrassi Junior High. Not scary, suspenseful or even funny. And it seems that gay characters (even when created by gay men) can only be X-takin', circuit-party-frequentin', bathroom-stall-sex-havin' pretty boys. It's kinda tiresome. But hey - what's good for the goose is good for the gander, and if you're gonna have one-dimensional characters in a movie like I Know What You Did Last Summer, why not have them in this one?
You can learn about all things Hellbent at the official site.

You woulda seen me, Dresden, and a bunch of nelly queens. Oh crazy! Ricky and I walked Uptown for the Aristocrats and then went to Zeno after for some wine and this uber yummy chocolate lava cake. It was divine! I'm surprised we didn't run into you. |

i've seen the advertisements for it in lavender, but that's as close as i've gotten.
oh gee: A group of four gay friends will have to fight for their lives to make it through a night where flamboyant costumes, beautiful people, drugs, music, dancing and sex are everywhere. ...yeah. this just totally screams "gay cliche-o-rama". death by high heels edit [Edited 9/24/05 5:41am]

Hey Dan! I was just going to orgnote you about another movie I saw recently. I have the Horror Channel now, and they play all kinds of horror movies of course.
Anyway, have you seen a really bad 80s slasher movie called Hide and Go Shriek? It's really bad, and I thought of you immediately when I was watching it. Also, there is a gay twist at the end of it. I can't believe I hadn't seen it until now. And no, I haven't seen Hellbent yet. "I saw a woman with major Hammer pants on the subway a few weeks ago and totally thought of you." - sextonseven

It seems like those are a staple of horror movies.

Are these kind of movies meant to entertain gay people, or straight people who are amused by gay antics and stereotypes?

more than likely it'll end up as the latter.

I'm guessing the fact that it's being marketed as "the first gay slasher" isn't going to attract many close-minded straight (or "straight") people, but officially it's meant to entertain the gays.

I watched it last night. One of the guys reminded me of a young Matt Dillon. Not his features just his acting. There was so much bad acting. I do have to say that the whole nerd/jock thing was cute. I fell for it hook, line and stinker....sinker. Yeah, pretty bad movie but I had a little fun with it.

At the same time, I can't help watching its films. There was one fucking hilarious film which reminded me of Ed Wood Jr's films called Killers From Space, about giant insects. Oh, and another standout was called "Black Magic Rituals" or something, and was some psychedelic Spanish film from the 60s/70s which was basically loads of chanting, sex and stabbing of naked women. I should've known what was coming with the opening credits, which appeared on a really fucked up, swirling "we filmed this on acid" backdrop of colours and music. But no, i haven't seen this film (in the UK we'll probably get it next year sometime. )

one of the worst horror movies i've ever seen is piranha II, the spawning.
the first piranha movie was pretty okay, being mildly believable (mutant piranhas attack swimmers) but the second movie featured rubbery fake looking piranhas that leaped out of cadavers to attack the coroner, after having been refrigerated on dry land for several hours... actually pretty hilarious .. has nothing to do with gay moviemaking though. just thought i'd toss it out there

M you should definitely rent piranha II then. it's hysterically funny in some places. not that it's meant to be, but that makes it even funnier [Edited 9/27/05 10:37am]

My ex-roommate and I used to sit and laugh our asses off. I think the last really so-bad-it's-good horror movies was SLUMBER PARTY MASSACRE and TOOL BOX MURDERS. There was a thread about these two movies a while ago. M M MyeternalgrattitudetoPhil&Val.Herman said "We want sweaty truckers at the truck stop! There's been a new one in the works for a few years now that is actually called The Horror Channel (www.horrorchannel.com), but they've had a tough time finding distribution. Their plan is to show uncut, commercial-free horror films.

They play a mixture of every kind of horror movie (mostly the really bad ones) so I like it. I've seen Killers From Space. I love those old giant bug movies. LMAO about the Black Magic one though. Sounds like my kind of movie. Recently I watched some Australian zombie movie from not too long ago. It was THE worst acting I have ever seen in a horror movie. And such cartoonish violence, that it didn't scare me. Usually zombie films really creep me out.
