from my job that is

i took a job working in a small resturant, nothing special.... just a neighborhood spot. i thought it would be fun to get out and meet some people in my area and just work a few hours while the kids were at school. but the owner of this place is one of the most horrible people i have ever met !

we have a young guy there who's mentally challenged, hes sweet as can be, always comes in with a smile on his face and always tries to help out whenever he can. anyway, my boss, instead of calling him by name, calls him 'the retard'

sooooo, since i was so upset by this, i thought someone should do something. i turned reported the situation to the guys 'helper' - thats the guy that comes in to work with him everyday to assist him. he was NOT happy to hear this, i gave him my name and number so he could reach me as i told him this was my last day (now mind you, i had worked there for all of 4 days). he thanked me, and i went back into work, expecting that the owner was to be there any minute.

well, we got busy, the owner was late, so i was working a few tables. SOMEONE from the back told the owner what i did and boy was he pissed !!!!! we got in a huge screaming match in the middle of the resturant, people were starring, it was so crazy. he just kept saying, 'you talk to much, you need to leave, i never said that, i would NEVER say that...' to which i said, 'now, why would i make that up ?? and why would other people hear you say that???' he backed me up into the corner and kept screaming at me, i told him i was not afraid of him and that i didnt agree with what he said....

he basically 'showed' me the way to the door


so, today, i have no job to go to...
but, i stuck up for something i believe needed to be stuck up for...
and now that im not working for the jerk, im gonna go hang out at the bead store and have lunch with a good friend instead

I not long ago was dealing with a similar situation at my job. This black guy darryis got hired. I trained him and everything. Took him a lil while but hes an awesome worker now and has a great sense of humor. Anyway..This older guy white italian man. I trained him as well, I suppose he caught on a little quicker then darryis but twtaver everybody learns differently. So... his name is Jim by the way .. Jim pulls me to the side one day and says... " Not to sound racist, but I know those kind aren't known for hard workers, how is he?" He was basically reffering black people don't work hard at all. Well.. that's all I needed to hear. I was like I don't know what you heard or think but darryis is a great guy and works just as hard as anyone here black or white. I guess thats not what he wanted to hear from me. Now... instead of going to a higher power and reporting him for that. I didn't wanna have to embarass darryis with it or even have him know. Instead I took it into my own hands. I am quite frequently in charge. You best beleive I had Jim doing all the filthy dirtay shitty jobs and darryis had it made.From then on his atitiude towards blacks and darryis alone has tended to change. I just thought id share my little story with you. Some people can be such ignorant fuckers. I know im not perfect and can be bitchy too but... im not that cold and low over things like that.


My senior year of high school I actually worked with children that were mentally and pschyically chalenged. All I can say is I felt bad for them... never once would I reffer to them as "the retards" all in all they were the happiest little pleasant souls you'd ever meet. I was glad to bring the smallest amount of joy to their worlds.

did you quit or did he fire you...just to be ugly if he uttered the words "you're fired" you could slap him with a "whistleblower" claim or go to the labor board and cry "hostile work environment"

I think another way to have handled it would have been to talk directly to the owner and let him know he's probably breaking a handful of labor laws, and it's just plain wrong. Then if he still a jerk, call the labor department or who ever handles that situation.

Excellent news. Your now a step closer to finding a cool boss. Theres too many assholes bosses around. I used to get shouted at by an old boss. Loudly shouting at me in front of everyone in the office. He was 6'3 muscles everywhere. i'm 5'4. I stayed for 3 long months. Turns out he was useless and was sacked shortly after i left! Justice. But i wish i had shouted back at him!

Naked - Nothing feels so good when leaving a job prematurely than knowing that you have acted with honour and integrity. I feel very proud to "know" someone like you. Awesome!
