TonyVanDam: I'm Still Alive!!!

Read THIS carefully because it will be a LONG while before any ORG members hears from me again:

1. Katrina mess up Metairie & Kenner, Louisiana pretty bad. But at least everyone at my apartment complex are alive & well.

2. Where in the hell is Saintsation?

3. Vainandy, I'm happy to know that you're still alive young man. Stay funky brother!

4. Thank you to Purplecam, Gangstafam, & countless others for doing their best of keeping up with the posts as much as possible.

5. I really try my best to keep all of you posted as long as I still has power at my place. My part of town was one of the last to lose electrical power & water in general.

6. Where in the hell is Ms.Legs?

7. Have anyone from New Orleans been drop off in any of your homestates?

8. And finally, my apartment (first floor) is a mess. Most of the water came from the ceiling because of the roof damages that ruined most of the third floor and some of the second floor apartments!!!

Still and all, I'm alive because of the mercy & protection of the almighty Yahweh. And BTW, I'm typing from my best friends' computer. Therefore, I won't be able to visit the ORG too often for awhile. And beside, they're still have bills to pay and I want them stay in their budget!

As for myself, I'll be homeless without a job for awhile. But this is a temporary setback. So don't sweat it too often. I'll be back. My ORG membership is still on.

Thanks! And may Yahweh's holy spirit be with all of you.

we are so relieved to hear from you! glad you're ok! woot!

Tony, I don't think we have talked on the org here, but after reading your initial post on Wednesday, you have been in my thoughts often while glued to CNN. I am really glad to hear you are alive and well. I can only imagine how bad it sucks to not have a home, job, everything is wiped out. But you do have your life, and thank God for that.
Has anyone heard from the guy from MN that went down to LA to watch the storm??
I hope he has fared as well.

I haven't had chance to read this thread properly so apologies if I repeat anything that's already been said... I'm almost at a loss for words. I've been completely shocked at the images over the last few days; it's difficult to comprehend just how people are dealing with this.

I just hope all of you who live in the area are safe and well and - to anyone affected by this or have friends or family in the area - my prayers are with you.

wow, "For God's sake, shut up and send somebody!"

Reads like a script in a movie. How in the hell did this happen in the United States of America??

What is despicable is, a lot of local authorities are going to get the blame for this... (read black city, black mayor, black problem --- not OUR problem).
I am just starting to hear that the "war" on Iraq also contributed to this catastrophe. FEMA was placed under homeland security... this means homeland security controlled the budget of FEMA. Instead of approving the monies earmarked for bolstering the levee system, the money was diverted to "homeland security". As recent as June 2004, the head civil engineer basically acknowledged FEMA lost out to "homeland security". Sin Bin Laden and his crew are probably laughing their azzes off while watching US citizens die like stray animals on the street on CNN on their sattelite TVs.

If anyone is interested or able, this is a service that lets you volunteer a bed in your home to people displaced by Katrina. you can determine who is acceptable for you home and for how long you are willing to host them. If you are in the southeast US or even in the US at all I encourage you to consider this as a way to help a vicitm.

It's taken me DAYS to get myself together just to even come to this site.

I've watched every newscast, read every Suntimes, Defender and Tribune.

I am so fuckin pissed, at the looters, rapists murderers and all.....

....at Jackass who played golf while people had to fight just to live.....

....at head people who were responsible for RESPONDING to such a crisis but didn't.....

and I'm too through with my own people.

No one in my neighborhood or so-called "block club" has done ANYTHING to aid those hit by the storm. My church and its officials havent even taken up collection of anything for those people..... and most of us (Chi Family and church members) have people down South!

What the hell is wrong with our nation today?
I can't say anything else. cry
They did WHAT??!.... disbelief

From one of my co-workers here in houston:

Well, apparently, housing 45000+ people isn't that hard for Houston. I just got back from the late-night shift at the George R. Brown Convention center and I gotta say that I would be happy to be housed there for months. Granted, I am very tolerant, but everything you could want is there. Free food and drink, free clothes, free shoes, free everything. Total security, total calm. The only thing you don't have is total privacy. But in a situation like this, people are tolerant. You can't expect everything, especially when you truly have nothing left.

Although there is no shortage of volunteers, I am somewhat disappointed at the lack of communication. When I tried to go back to Reliant Arena (not the Astrodome or Convention center), the police turned me away and said come back later. There were too many volunteers. When I called the 'hotline' for info later in the day they told me that the George R Brown Convention center needed people right away, so I went. When I drove up to the GRB, police questioned me and said they were already at volunteer capacity. I told them "I just called the center and they said they need volunteers NOW". They didn't argue, but they were curious as to who I talked to (since there are many shelters in Houston and the coordination is not quite what it shoud be at the moment). So, I called the number back right in front of the police. They heard my conversation, escorted me to the location that I was told (which was already cut off by police) and asked the people at the door "Are you guys accepting volunteers?" Of course they said YES and I got in. I told the main people inside to communicate with the police since they were turning people away that might be needed. Unfortunately, my eventual job was sorting and folding the flood of clothes that people have donated. I know that this organization is needed, but I don't think this is the time for it. Right now, people need to feel safe, feel that their problems are known and that they are taken care of. Showering or bathing is nice, but really they want to be heard or known, not ignored. I did arrive for the night shift, so most were asleep, but buses were still coming in and people were still needed to be considered and consoled...

This email may be distributed and I'm going to sleep now...

Michael

People who have taken in family members need our help. I know that in my family there are households that have tripled in size. The food bill, electricity and water bills are huge now. But these people are not getting the debit cards because they are not in the shelters.

also old people who relocate to different states are having a horrible time getting their medications.

not sure who to contact about all this but knowing my friends here I just wanted to put this out.

maybe we can do something or someone may be aware of other programs that will help. I have sent out hundreds of $$$ to my old aunts for clothing and meds and to assist my cousins who have taken in their mothers and their sisters, brothers nieces and nephews. But assistance is needed for the families of the evacuees as well.
