I gotta say that I'm pissed off.
I've always wanted a deadly hurricane to be named after me. Earlier this year, I thought, fuck yeah, this year will be the year, since I'm female and my name begins with a K. But nooooo..... They had to name it Katrina. I know that sounds really depraved, but that's me.

interesting. re-reading that article at the top that was published on 8/28/05, it sounds as though the mayor did everything he could. mandatory evacuation warning, sirens, busses to move people to safety. people kinda refused to go
8/28/05 New Orleans Braces for Powerful Katrina: City Evacuated http://www.sfgate.com/cgi...=printable Monstrous Hurricane Katrina barreled toward the Big Easy on Sunday with 175-mph wind and a threat of a 28-foot storm surge, forcing a mandatory evacuation, a last-ditch Superdome shelter and prayers for those left to face the doomsday scenario this below-sea-level city has long dreaded. Conceding that as many as 100,000 inner-city residents didn't have the means to leave and an untold number of tourists were stranded by the closing of the airport, the city arranged buses to take people to 10 last-resort shelters, including the Superdome. Nagin also dispatched police and firefighters to rouse people out with sirens and bullhorns, and even gave them the authority to commandeer vehicles to aid in the evacuation. "This is very serious, of the highest nature," the mayor said. "This is a once-in-a-lifetime event." Despite the dire predictions, a group of residents in a poor neighborhood of central New Orleans sat on a porch with no car, no way out and, surprisingly, no fear. "We're not evacuating," said 57-year-old Julie Paul. "None of us have any place to go. We're counting on the Superdome. That's our lifesaver." The Superdome, the 70,000-seat home of football's Saints and the New Year's Sugar Bowl, opened at daybreak Sunday, giving first priority to frail, elderly people on walkers, some with oxygen tanks. They were told to bring enough food, water and medicine to last up to five days.

Looks like i won't be going. Though, if they do pull of some type of miracle and still have it, i'll be there! Who's coming with me?!? And miss it each night and day I know I'm not wrong... this feeling's gettin' stronger The longer, I stay away Miss them moss covered vines...the tall sugar pines Where mockin' birds used to sing And I'd like to see that lazy Mississippi...hurryin' into spring The moonlight on the bayou.....a Creole tune.... that fills the air I dream... about Magnolias in bloom.....and I'm wishin' I was there Do you know what it means to miss New Orleans When that's where you left your heart And there's one thing more...I miss the one I care for More than I miss New Orleans (instrumental break) The moonlight on the bayou.....a Creole tune.... that fills the air I dream... about Magnolias in bloom.....and I'm wishin' I was there Do you know what it means to miss New Orleans When that's where you left your heart And there's one thing more...I miss the one I care for More.....more than I miss.....New Orleans

Sometimes, but from what I've seen of the devastation, and the reality of the gruesome things there, I retract that.
