Wal-Mart---The Filthiest Place in America

Is there a dirtier place in America than your local neighborhood Wal-Mart?

I am a Wal-Mart shopper who goes anywhere from 2-3 times a week. Wal-Mart is literally 2 minutes away from our house and it is the most cost effective grocery store in the area. But just because I shop there doesn't mean I have to like it. The place is straight up nasty, as are all the other Wal-Marts I have ever been to, both in my state and elsewhere.

Wal-Mart certainly attracts a lot of families like mine, families on a budget, but also seems to attract people who believe that trash receptacles do not apply to them. A parking lot at Wal-Mart is filled with plastic bottles, tobacco residue, cans, half-eaten food, and the occasional discarded condom. You make your way through this disgusting lot to the inside, filled with sweaty, space hogging individuals (inevitably wearing muscle shirts) who would just as soon roll their cart over you as go around you. And the grocery carts themselves...rolling carts of filth that are seemingly never cleaned and always filled with old grocery lists, newspapers, discarded lighter, etc. It is just a joy to roll these wobbly-wheeled filth vessels through grocery littered, spill-filled aisles while you navigate through the 300,000 feet of the store.

Hey, I would go to Publix or one of those other "upscale" grocery stores where you can eat off of, or if so inclined roll around naked on, their heavily sanitized floors. But we cannot afford the extra 20 or 30 dollars a pop and plus, since we have children who may occasionally speak or make noises, we get looked at like heathens whenever we go to these pantheons of higher grocery store atmosphere.

So I’m a Wal-Mart man. I will continue to go there and get grossed out and have the strong desire to take an industrial-strength shower like Meryl Streep did in “Silkwood” when I get home.

All good things they say never last...

Co Sign all that! I hate going there because regardless of time of day it's packed plus 50. I mean always 10 -20 people in any one line, but you're there because it's the only place you can pick up school supplies for the kids and limes for your beer at the same time. I always plan on taking 30 min there even if it's just to get an Icee.

I must admit, Wal-Mart is one of the downsides 2 the USA!!! Whenever I used 2 go 2 Wal-Marts over there I always felt like I was walking into a glorified Yard Sale!!! lol lol lol lol

Clothes that should b on hangers on rails or in bags on shelves were either on the floor or draped over the said rails or shelves!!! Nothing was stacked neatly on the shelves so everything was in total chaos!! Many atime I used 2 come home with the wrong product of, for example, hair care stuff, simply because nothing was stacked neatly behind the appropiate labels on the shelf front!!!! Not 2 mention the wonky carts!!! lol lol lol

I can honestly say that K-Mart, Shopko and Target were joys 2 shop in compared 2 Wal-Mart!!

Depending on where we lived, cos we travelled around a lot, we used 2 get our groceries in County Market, Hy-Vee, Cub Foods, Safeway, Rainbow Foods, etc. NEVER Wal-Mart!!! lol lol lol

I havent been to Walmart in awhile. It's always crowded. I went last year a few days before Christmas...OMG. It was hell. People act like they don't know how to say excuse me.

And everything was on the floor!

I refuse to shop at WalMart because of their employment policies, music censorship and refusal to dispense prescribed morning-after pills.

That it's filthy doesn't suprise me. confused

There are still cheap alternatives--Target, K-Mart, Fred Meyer, TJ Maxx, Home Depot, etc.

Comparing Wal-Mart with Target and K-Mart, Wal-Mart is in the bottom of the list. It is dirty and crowded plus the CD are censored. I remember picking up Puff Daddy's No Way Out when it was hot and it wasn't until I heard my next door neighbor playing his copy of the CD that I realized that I was missing a good 2 or 3 songs from my copy. I promised myself I'd never buy another CD from there again and I haven't. It's no wonder why New York City doesn't have a Wal-Mart, yet it has a K-Mart and a Target.

i would have to agree with sammi... the stores in canada are clean and well laid out and the carts don't have trash in them. confuse
carts have germs of course but no more no less than any other shopping cart.

hmm... i'm going to have to try asking for the morning after pill and see what happens.
(here you can get them without prescription) thumbs up!

sometimes someone leaves their mcdonalds coke on a shelf - that bugs me - but other than that it's more pleasant to shop in than it's canadian rival chain.

Hi, Come to my Wal Mart where everyone is friendly and the store is clean!
As for the music, Wal Mart doesn't do the censoring they buy it that way.

I am too. I recently weened myself down to only one visit a week. I was seriously shopping there at least 2-3 times a week before.
And comparatively, they are always clean, with big wide aisles, and someone's always around to help if you need it. And they have SUCH cute decor stuff these days. I love the advertising too.
That, and I work in their corporate offices. I heart my discount. smile

I despise the WalMart that is closet to where I live. It's always dirty, withh trash all over and all-around disgusting. I only go in there for things like toilet paper and toiletries, since they do have them the cheapest.
And the people - God, I can't wait to get away from them.

I'll be in there this week to audit their T-Mobile center. That should be a hoot and a looooong report.

I love the fact that there are 50 check-out lines at Wal-Mart and only three of them are open. And even one of those three is about to close because the person has to go to lunch.

I gave them a shot after years of ignoring them because I wanted to buy a new DVD. I would never buy new releases at Wal-Mart since they don't put them on sale and of course they only allow censored music. Then I just walked around there one day to browse....I was not all that impressed.

Here at home, I avoid Wal-Mart like the plague. The check-out lines are long and slow, the salesfloor is a mess, and the other shoppers are (for the most part) vile.

I go to TARGET whenever I can.

However, when we visit my in-laws in (St. Cloud) Florida, they have a Super Wal-Mart which is clean, friendly, and ususally has a relatively fast check-out.
