I was fired once because I....


All this Karl Rove stuff recently has me wondering what it takes to lose your job these days. I've been "let go" three times in my life (I'm 38).

Who here has ever been fired from a job and why?

never been fired.

I was in the military for 8 years so that doesn't count.

I've been a civilian for 7 and so far, never got the axe dispite being through 3 mergers.

i was fired once because i worked for a non-profit that was running out of money and didn't want to explain to its major donors why, so i was one of many people who were fired for "incompetency" without being given any reason other than "we're an at-will employment organization, clear your desk".

oh, and they also tried to get me to sign a non-disclosure agreement saying that i left on my own accord and had no issues with the organization. i told them to disclose their agreement up their ass.

I was working at the Zoo....that's where I met my husband.....We were both working in the Safari..which is one of the places to eat....I was taking orders and he cooked' em.....the two managers of this one place (two sluts) liked David (my husband)...and when we started dating....some money disappeared out of my drawer and I was fired for it....At the end of your shift you count out your own drawer...so I know it was all there.....He quit when we found out....He said it wouldn't have been the same there with out me.....A girlfriend of mine also worked there and told me what they had did.....I hope they had to work double time until they replaced us....

Never been fired!

Worked at a music store where there was a strict playlist handed down by the area manager to the store manager to the assistant manager.

Store manager left one evening and the assistant manager said to everyone, "forget the playlist, choose what you want tonight".

As per the assistant manager's instructions, everyone chose a disc that hadn't been spun a trillion times already. I chose Massive Attack Blue Lines. :eye:

Murphy's Law: Area manager was going to a movie at the same mall and dropped by the store and caught the playlist violation while Massive Attack was playing.

I got the axe the next day from the Store Manager.

Totally unfair, but the assistant manager was a lifer and I was on probation.

I was fired the next shift I worked after surviving a management change becauseI dared to sit down on my break. Foolish me, I assumed break time was break time, not keep-working time.

That was 2 years ago though, and from what I hear the place has gone completely down the shitter due to poor management.

My office summerjob got cut short when I couldn't combine working fulltime with partying fulltime at night anymore.
That was halfway in my four-week term. I guess they never hired a temporary one third the age of the person on holiday

Yes, twice. Once for getting high on the job (I was 16), and another time because the business was doing bad and they had to let a few of us go.

I was fired from "Things Remembered" (that place where you can buy cheap shit and have whatever engraved on them) for engraving a bunch of "colorful" brass plates and putting them on the clocks. That shit was funny.
