I like to watch ballet productions. But only modern ballet. The swan lake stuff and Osh Kosh Barishnokof bores me.

Close friends of my family used to take me quite a bit when I was young. They put me in dance school as well. I was very sad when I had to quit as my parents couldn't afford to send me. I always preferred dancing to tap more than ballet (and even did solo competition already at age 5, took 2nd in tap and 3rd in ballet) and I swear to this day if my parents had kept me in dnace maybe I'd have a different profession. giggle
I always liked to music for ballet better, though.

wave I do. nod But I'm also a ballet dancer, so I guess I like performing more than watching others. I'd rather be the one onstage. lol

But I still love to go see the classics. Swan Lake, Giselle, Sleeping Beauty, La Bayadere, Balanchine stuff, etc. nod

I don't see a whole lot of dance - not as much as I'd like to or should see. But I have seen you perform! biggrin A good friend of mine is a dance critic, and she insists that the Twin Cities, barring New York, has the best, most supportive dance community in the USA (she'd place San Francisco maybe as a tie). I asked about Chicago, but she doesn't feel that they have much outside of The Joffrey. Would you agree?

I try to go to the ballet every year (usually round Xmas) I have seen the Royal ballet perform , Cinderella, Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty (AWSOME), Romeo and Juliett, Giselle and Swan Lake by the Bolshoi - which actually brought me to tears (although i supressed it of course lol)

If you are in London at Xmas Natisse, book your tickets in August to get good cheap(ish) seats for the Xams Ballet - the mood is magical. I took my little sister last year (for Cinderella) she still talks about it.

Oh, and of course Billboards lol

Bilboards edit.

I absolutely ADORE ballet. I used to take ballet years ago and as a child.
I go to the ballet every year. Every year, I go see the Nutcracker on Christmas Eve (it's a tradition for me) and i go see other things thru out the year.
I saw Romeo and Juliet this past June. I go see all the classics, even if I've seen them before, like, Gisele, Cinderella, Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, Firebird, Coppelia, etc.
People to this day ask me if I was a dancer, soley because of the way I walk, my posture, and my body movement in general.

Since you appreciate athleticism in women Ace, I'm surprised you don't go regularly, even if it's just to look at the ballerinas. lol

I've seen the Jeoffrey Ballet, BILLBOARDS, and another piece that I can't remember the name of.

I saw the Truckadero Ballet, all male but pretty professional. And I saw an all male version of SWAN LAKE, it was incredible.

redface That's RIGHT you did see me. lol Of course, I had on a mask the entire time, so you probably didn't even know which one I was. lol You'll have to come see Giselle when we do that one (that is, if I'm all better by then).

Yeah, Chicago doesn't have much in the way of ballet companies, apart from the Joffrey which only relocated to Chicago from NY in the past 10 years. They do have Hubbard Street Dance though, which is a pretty well known modern company though. They also are known for their jazz companies as well. But this was a long time ago. I haven't kept up on Chicago's dance scene lately because I'm just not doing auditions there anymore.
