Belly Dancing W/ Coins

I'd like to roll coins around on my stomach but can't even get the quarter to stand upright, let alone move it around. Of course I can't isolate my stoamch muscles (that might be a problem). And I have a waist that measures about 27-28inches so I'm worried I'm too hefty for rolling coins. Any tips?
If it doesn't fit, it's ugly anyway.

Just keep practicing.

Like any other art form it takes dedication, devotion, time, commitment, and not much else...oh yeah and a quarter.

LaCoyta, did you see? I'm going to be a Daddy! woot!

biggrin

Your waist isn't that big. Have you ever tried to do a plank pose for an ab exercise? That will help you to learn to isolate them - it's like you're defying gravity.
Also, keep your abs tight throughout the day. That definitely helps. (You're training yourself to isolate your abs and/or core.)

A bit off topic, but does anybody remember when Arsenio Hall had Prince and the NPG on his show, and Mayte rolled those quarters on her stomach? I was like, "Woah!" She made it look easy, but I'm sure it's not. As other people have said, it takes a lot of practice to get the technique down. Keep practicing, and I'm sure it will get easier for you. smile
RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

Don't be sad. I tried one coin and it just fell right over is there a certain place to stand it?
If it doesn't fit, it's ugly anyway.

Hey LaCoyta, long time no see. Last time I remember you posting you were complaining about not being able to get a good job and people got pretty riled up because of your unremittingly bleak attitude. I also remember you wanting to get rich quickly. How is it going with all that?

I gave up on getting a good job. The economy sucks and if u didn't start having job experince at age 11 (or have great connections) u're screwed out of all out jobs that don't involve saying 'wouldn u like fries w/ that?" or cleaning toilets. I'm a janitor, I clean carpets (if I'm lucky, I MIGHT get $10 an hr this year [pray for me, please]I live in a small town were it doesn't cost much to live so $10 isn't anything to sneeze at [at least for a single person]) I know I'll never be rich (I don't have what it takes because my life is a classic catch 22 situation) So I'm saving as much of my money as I can (I live w/ my parents, but it's ok ,I"m 20, so that's not too old) and plan on getting a Roth IRA so I can at least retire well. I intend to work for a long time. Someday hopefully I'll also have a really smart husband (yes, I want someone smarter than I) w/ a high paying job. (I've got to wait for the men my age to grown up and realize looks aren't everything bored or get an older man wink ) I'm also be willing to get a job on the weekends (so I don't sit around being bored and lonely and eat myself to death lol) after I move out of my parents house.
Btw, be nice to janitors, we're people too. biggrin

Anyway I'm almost able to effortlessly pull in my lower abs or upper abs indiviually (I say almost because it doesn't always work right boxed )Will that help me w/ my bellydancing goals? Seriously, bellydancing isn't my area of expertise (in case that isn't obivous biggrin )

Don't sit around and wait for a rich man to come and sweep you off your feet and change your life. That's what my aunt is doing and the more time that passes, the more obssessed does she get with that idea. It's almost like she's putting everything else on hold until it happens. If I were you, I'd leave my home town and go for something slightly bigger. Although I think it sounds good that you've abandoned the get-rich-quick schemes, you don't want to get too accepting of/accustomed to a situation that you're unhappy in. Just go. The worst thing that can happen is that you'll have to return home again and at least then you've tried.
