need ur advice Im currently in a jam with what I should do, When I got outta high school in 2001, I was studying 2 become a doctor, but music is my love and so I left and now everyone is on my back saying I have no education,no job, im a bum, that im 20, whateva that really means etc. Should i just go back 2 becomin a pathologist and tell em 2 back off?
The reason I left was bcause I couldn't imagine myself sitting in a lab with a 2006 BMW, earning a LOT of money 4eve, I would've never been truly happy. It seems like this music thing is never gonna happen , what should i do? The other thing is I have a "job" but i don't like 2 call it work cause i adddddore it, Im a writer, lyricist and poet 2 b specific and they don't no, the reason they don't no is cause i no they ll laugh at me, or disapprove, the reason i no it is cause they do it 2 others who r actors, singers, etc. Love MAd live..love...lead....create .....inspire

Seriously, these people need to stop passing judgment and support your endevours to find who you are and what would make you happy. I'd also bet that a few of them are jealous of your talent or they're voicing the insecurites they have for themselves. They were probably too afraid to follow their dreams and want you to be just like them. "be glad that you are free, many a man is not"

You're twenty, you've got time to figure it all out. Do whats in your heart now, but you can change your mind and go for pathology later if you want to.Maybe if you take a few classes your family will be happy. It doesn't hurt creative people to have an education. "Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind"-Dr Seuss

It's probably not apparent to you right now, but 20 is still very young. You have years and years to figure out what you are going to do. In the meantime, I'd get drunk and run away from your problems. That's what I do!

Go back to med school, if you at least graduate now while you are confused you will always have a career to fall back on. If you don't you may regret it later.
Don't see medcine or "official" jobs and being part of the rat race, see them as a means to doing what you want to in your life. Keep the things you love as hobbies and enjoy them forever but if you have ability, at least get a job that gives you security. Don't buy the BMW, by a sound studio Happy is he who finds out the causes for things.Virgil (70-19 BC). Virgil was such a lying bastard!

Music is a difficult journey and is made only for the strongest, luckiest, and smartest. Why not try majoring in business and develop an event planning firm or working for an entertainment company? It doesn't have to be all or nothing. I myself am not a musician, but work in the "biz". I didn't think of a career like this till I hit college. An education is an EXTREMELY important thing. Don't beleive all that Kanye speaks about on his college drop out album...80 percent of the time it doesn't happen that way. The one thing I've learned in this feild is that artists and business people do not mesh...because musicians usually don't have the same mind set. So I understand if you don't take any of my advice. But think of this...Record label A&Rs are artists on their own grind...take Puffy for example...doing that at Uptown...while in college. I respect Little Brother because they are all NCCU alum. In this business, you NEED to be educated...I can't stress it enough. Just because you go to college doesn't mean you have to be a doctor.. What about entertainment law? You should seriously look into your options. Good luck!

Now that I think about it...Entertainment lawyers make a lot more money (at their peak) than a lot of artists. the common misconception of most artists is that they will be on MTV cribs as soon as a major label signs them. Please...you will most likely be shelved, mismanaged, or pushed a wee bit and then forgotten if your project doesn't blow.
Raheem DeVaughn, an amazing artist being compared to D'Angelo, was released in '04. Do you know he's been signed to Jive for YEARS?? And to be quite honest, it doesn't look like a powerful move for him. I doubt he'll make it. But I hope he does. OK I'll stop talking.

I'm in a simiular situation. My heart and dream is in the entertainment world/ music etc. It's a hard field to make a decent buck right away in. So.... I myself am going into the medical field as well. I'm going to school for an ultra sound technican. After my first year I will be making 20 - 25 dollars and hour. After I get certifed on my second year I will be making up to 30 - 35 dollars and hour. I would suggest you continue to do what you desire but still take care of yourself making some money. So persue your medical career and still do music in the half time of it.

Why is everyone working in unrelated fields? It is much easier to be int the loop than hustling double time

Yes, you are still very young, but now is the time to starting building your furture and you are never too young to do that. Time has taught me that.

Personally, from life experience; I'd go for the bit 'o paper ( study).... I went back to school couple of years back, after 15 years. Then you can earn enough money to have the freedom to be as Artistic as U want & call the shots .Be smart now, while your young ! . ~PClinuxOS~ I've been here longer than I care to remember, ... You know, I've known some excellent surgeons who are phenomenal musicians. It is probabally the same part of the brain and makes for great hand eye coordination needed to both play and operate.
