Which Is Worse??...

Insincerity...or hypocrisy??

Which would you find worse in another person...

That their words are insincere...?

Or that their actions don't match their words...?

Two sides of the same coin, I suppose...with one being purposeful, and the other being oblivious...

Which would you find to be a worse trait in another??... hmmm

I hate both things, personally.

Hypocrisy is a hard thing to be too mad at, however, because most of us are hypocrites, and so it would be hypocritical to be angry with someone for their hypocrisy.

I guess. confused

Hypocrisy.....how can one espouse sentiments and live another way! That irks me to no end.....

Insincerity....can be humbled in my eyes.

Thanks.

Insincerity has to be worse. There is nothing I hate more than going into a store and having a salesperson ask me if I've had a nice day. They don't give a fuck. I know, because I'm a salesperson. smile I don't ever ask that. I greet with a "hello" and then I try to find something else to speak about when I need to, but I don't say things I don't mean and I don't ask things I don't care about.

Being insincere in a comment can hurt someone. For instance, last year, my ex/current used to tell me he "loved" me. Later it just became one of those things you just say cos you don't know what else to say. That's not cool.

I'm rambling. Shiraz.

That tends to be me, too... nod...when the chance to live and be true to the words of their "life philosophy" comes, and they give themselves permission to forego them... disbelief

Although insincerity isn't much better...I live by the "Don't Say It If You Don't Really Mean It" code of ethics...because our words really do matter and effect others.

meaning that sometimes when you're going out of your way to maintain honesty, you go against things you've said and done in the past, and it could be percieved that you expose your own propensity for being a hypocrite.

Think of a time you've been hypocritical. I'm sure it happens.

I think it's almost impossible to live life yourself the way you expect others to sometimes. Try as you might. Only, you're more likely to see what others are doing and not yourself when you do it.

I can't word a damned thing how I want to this evening.

I should stop and just flick the bean awhile and sleep.

I think it depends on what ways you're "going against things" you've said and done in the past...as well as how soon you do so. If a year ago someone says and does something different than they are now, you can logically explain the difference as a simple passage of time. If, however, their desire to "maintain honesty" has them doing and saying something different three days later, then I think you have a valid reason for questioning their sincerity (either now or three days ago), as well as if they're being hypocritical or not...

I understand what you mean, though.. nod

actually no,they both suck. but if i really had to choose i think hypocracy(sp)would be more acceptable cause it shows how that person really is, they say one thing and show the opposite through actions. whereas insincerity can be hidden and you may never know what they are thinking.

And so have I. So saying I dislike it in others is hypocritical. biggrin

well, i guess what i mean in a more generic sense is, hypocrisy can creep up on a person, whereas a person tends to know when s/he is being insincere. it doesn't make hypocrisy any more virtuous, but i do think that it's often unavoidable, and those who acknowledge it are definitely at an advantage over those who won't.

Well, I did say up above that I can be both at times myself...but that the important thing is to acknowledge it, both to yourself and to the others who are effected by it...and to catch yourself as quickly as possible, returning to a more consistent path. What we tend to do, unfortunatelly, is to rationalize away our actions, and convince ourselves we're being consistent and sincere...or that if we're not, that it's "ok" for us not to be at this point. That rationalization keeps us from actually growing spiritually and emotionally...we are content with telling ourselves who and what we are, instead of living it 100%. I think that's why hypocrisy ranks a bit higher than insincerity...usually, insincere people know they're being insincere...while hypocrites are experts and convincing themselves that they're remaining consistent.

I got nothin' but a full bladder, now.

I still hate insincerity more. That can, as I said, hurt a person, whereas hypocrisy will probably just piss them off. biggrin
