It's already been said but I second easyjet and/or ryanair. There also is a channel from London to Paris and you can get there in 40 minutes with eurostar, a train/shuttle type thing. I've used all of these and they are very reasonable!

If you're under 26 or a student you can also go through STA Travel. They have cheap air fares as well.

take the eurostar. it's really nice if you want to see countryside. plus it goes str8 to Paris or Amsterdam

The tendency of backpackers to be shouted at, pushed out of the way, generally verbally abused, and occasionally be thrown off moving trains have also been contributory factors in the decline of the fine art of being a backpacking pain in the arse.

Try BA if you are booking WELL in advance they have a few deals and if you are really flexable on when you go Priceline.co.uk can come up trumps.
