Looks like a stinker, but we'll see.

I lost all faith in George after the insanely stupid Day of the Dead.

I think his newest mistake is making his zombie flick similar in style to modern films.

Some stills here.

The effects look shitty. They look like plastic zombies.

My understanding is that the film itself was lensed in the same style as Romero's other zombie films. The same goes for the film score; it'll be like the other films. The music in the trailer is from Resident Evil, and will not be in the film itself. I loved Night of the Living Dead and Dawn of the Dead, but don't care all that much for Day of the Dead. No flashy editing in Land of the Dead - the trailer was edited to sell to the lame brain generation. I'm glad to see the return of the lumbering zombie. I've been looking forward to this one for a year now!

That could be. I'm just telling you it's not in the same style as the newer zombie films. smile

Nothing creeps me out like the slow, rigormortis plagued zombies of old.

I HATE running, athletic zombies. They're just not creepy. They come off more like generic demons than the living dead.

Day of Dead really sucked though. Boring, lame attempt at some sort of philosophical view on zombies.

They were on the right track with trying to understand the way zombies thought and functioned.

On paper, that's a good idea. Too bad they ended up with silly touches like that goofy zombie that befriends the scientist. Ugh. Plus it moved at a ridiculously slow pace.

Yeah, it wasn't great. But there were some good moments and the effects were awesome.

What made Day of the Dead so hard to watch was also the fact that Dawn of the Dead is so fucking awesome.

I've always loved zombie movies but I'm not sure why. I think it's partly because they're basically about us humans fighting ourselves, our own faulty bodies that we're sometimes trapped inside but that in this case are an exterior threat. I think it has to do with the scary idea of hell being to full and the feeling of armageddon that it brings. I think it has to do with the sheer number of zombies and the inevitability of it all; they don't have to run, they know they're going to get you in the end anyway. I'm also terrified by the thought of having to kill loved ones because they're suddenly trying to eat you!

For all these reasons and more, I've probably seen every damn zombie movie out there (with the possible exception of a few Italian low budget flicks). I'm looking forward to the new one, but I would have liked a fresh take of some sort. It seems like it's the same old thing. That's why I appreciated Day of the Dead more than most; they tried to take it to the next level. Understanding the creatures and showing too much of them is usually kills the tension in a creature feature, but in this case it made it more frightening. I'm still waiting for a zombie movie with more underlying social criticism (a la Dawn of the Dead) and where they don't end up cooped up in some building after a few minutes. mad

And oh, I hope they won't inject too much humour into Land of the Dead. A little bit is inevitable and makes it more enjoyable, but I don't want some sort of postmodern self-satirical trash.

Completely agreed.

The music in the background screams "quick money hollywood affair". I think it would be an awesome concept, but it doesn't appear they aimed for anything more than a teenage thriller.

I think the appeal of the zombie sub-genre is the fact that they are death personified. Human's have an innate fear of death, and the concept of it having a physical form makes it even more chilling. As you said, the idea of the zombies not having to run, because they would inevitably get you, is metaphoric to death itself. Ultimately, death will claim you, but in the meantime you fight it with all your might.

Couldn't agree more. I could've bought the whole "running zombie" thing, if they had made them that way only immediately after death, and then later slowed down and became stiff. To me, it takes away from their creepiness.

Speaking of Zombies...does anyone remember that movie NIGHT OF THE COMET? 1984, I think...one of my favorite zombie movies!

Quick synopsis...comet hits earth - turns all humans that were outdoors watching the comet into red dust. Anyone who didn't get affected completely by the comet became Human flesh-eating zombies. There were two woman who survived b/c they were inside and some dude. I haven't seen it in a while but everytime I learn its on TV, I watch it.

i dont think its a stretch that zombies have evolved. they arent totally dead...after all they have the animal instinct to eat flesh....

its my understanding that this movie is taking place in todays time and that it will a continuation of day of the dead which means, what, twenty five years or so have passed? i can see how zombies have evolved to the point where they can run now.....

I LOVED that movie when I was younger. Of course, I haven't seen it since the 80s, but I sure as heck enjoyed it back then.

I dunno. The idea of the walking dead "evolving" just doesn't work for me. They're DEAD, so they should be just re-animated corpses. Decay should still be occurring.
