I was just a radiology service school last year, with a guy who goes every year. He told me of the debauchery that happens there...sounds like an interesting experience. These pics you posted are similar to the ones he described...including a lot of nakedness and weirdness.... Sounds like a party for Althom and AB! nod falloff

Exactly what I heard.....I guess the whole idea is that once everyone leaves...there can be no trace that anyone was even there...not a scarp of paper or anything.... confuse

I've been 4 times. I suppose you could say I am the resident burning Orger.

I had a great time. It's not for everyone, that's for sure. I have to say that if you are interested...GO! All kinds of people go...all races and ages. It is an amazing time.

Of course it is what you make it. It is everything and nothing. A party. A ritual. A gathering. A community. A celebration. A freedom of expression.

It is not a rave. It is not a drug addled sex orgy. It is not a hippie fest in the desert. It can be all these things if you look for them...but actually they are small pieces of what it really is.

Some go naked some do the costume thing...oft times it is a combonation. I prefer to remain clothed, as I have really fair skin and the sun can be a brutal thing. It's also a survival thing...they sell nothing but ice and coffee. Everything else you gotta bring...and take home with you. Leave no trace. It's also the desert...so you have to battle those elements.

Feel free to ask me questions and I will attempt to answer them.

They stay for 2 months making sure even foot prints aren't even left. It's a big deal.

A girl I work with has been going faithfully for years now. I would love to check it out sometime, but for me I know it'll never happen. I can't camp and I would burn to a crisp in the desert. But I enjoy the pics and sories. smile

I totally want to go! My sister went for the first time last year and she loved it of course. nod We were planning on going together this year, but she chose not to go because of financial reasons. So I'll have to go not this year, but in 2006. sad I did go to the big Decompression street party afterward in S.F. w/ her and a ton of other people that went. Everyone wore their Burning Man outfits and it was really crazy. "Boot Boy" came by and licked my black stiletto boots for a half an hour. falloff

i've been wanting to go for years, but it seems to be getting bigger and bigger every year, which, IMO takes away some of the appeal.

That's true. It would have been cool to be there in the very beginning.

Well...you should bring everything you need. There really are no "ins and outs" as it's hard to keep track of people and the ride in for the last 1 - 2 hours is a one lane in road to the event. The last "stop" is the Market store in Gerlach. They stock up for this event every year. I'd say its a convenience store...plus. Many who fly in get stuff in Reno as it's less of a haul.

The only out is a bus that leaves about 4 times a day and it's 20 bucks. A trip to and from the store is appx 1 - 3 hours depending on traffick and the day you go. It's also hot on the bus as it has no air conditioning. I do know of folks who have to leave to go pick people up at the airport and they also pay a nominal fee to leave.

It may seem a little harsh...but as there are MANY that go...some trying to get in for free by either hiding in stuff or trying to get in through the "back gate"...and really by Wed morning the line to get in is madness.

Two of my favorite sights..Coming in on Wed/Thurs night... and seeing BM from a distance. It looks like a neon town...all pretty and tiny. And the other is being there at the start (mon) and seeing the looong line of headlights coming into the event.

But basically to answer your question...bring all you will need. And if it's too much...have someone else you are camping with bring stuff for you.

It's still cool.

Granted, I am sure it's lost a little of what it was that originally made it special. But as all things evolve...so has this. It's still special, and of course it's what you make it.
