Sweeny 79 and I are... ...the same age. It's odd. 1979 seems such a long time ago. My first memory is being in my pram and a man putting fifty pence under my pillow on the top of Monkland View Crescent in my home village of Bargeddie. My second first memory (the one that people actually believe, the bastards) is dancing to the Eurithmics 1984 song in my mum and dad's bedroom while imaginging an intergalactic battle for the wee toy X-wing my mum boght me for Chrsitmas which I was swinging around with my right arm on top of their bed, bouncing up and down to the do-do-do do-doos.
So, the point. What's you first memory, people?

My first memory is listening to the gas come out of a lighter and then hearing the first crackling sounds of my hair catching fire, running around the house with my hair ablazed and my brother wacking me upside the head with a school bag to put it out.

It was 1974 and the neighbor who was watching me didn't believe my mom and dad had come home and refused to let me go home. I ended up sneaking out and going next door to our home and crying to my mom that the neighbor lady wanted to keep me locked in her basement. (She had put me in the play room in the basement and it had one of those half doors and she locked the bottom half on me... I had to climb on top of stuffed animals to get past the door).
I was quite shaken, but she really didn't think my parents came home.

Do you think your memories are real or have you maybe added wee bits to them unknowingly?

It's a proven fact that we are able to produce false memories.

Excellent point! I tell my mother my versions and she laughs and corrects some of them... Out perception is only as old as we are often!

Earliest known memory:
I am 3 years old.... My sister was born and needed the crib... so I was moved to a big girl bed. I wanted to sleep in the crib... So my mom said ok thinking I would hate it! Well, I didn't and she reniged and took me out. I remember how I felt being lifted out... I remember it feeling like I was deceived and displaced.

my first memory aint a good one. But I always kinda get freaked out when I think that someone born in 1984 is 21, legal age. I was 14 then and buying my very first Prince album with my own money. This kinda chit makes me feel like I need to feel old 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

Moderator | My first memory is being on the boardwalk at the beach and looking down and watching my little feet kick back in forth wildly as I sat in the stroller, I recall the shoes EXACTLY white mary janes with a little yellow daisy on the front, my mom says I was less than one then.
Good thread idea 23, made great by the inclusion of my name. In spite of the cost of living, it's still popular. |

I can't remember anything up until about the age of 8 or 9 years old.
It was my birthday party and we were throwing wet sponges at my dad. He'd made one of those boards where you poke your head through and there's a body painted on the board, which in this case was of a knobbly-kneed schoolboy.
