i always thought that if you were with God, you understood that ALL people are his children.. there are none of us that are better than others. it pains me to see that God gave us all the right to have our own minds, our own bodies, our own judgement, our own beliefs, yet... some people hide behind their religion as a way to belittle others confuse

to me, if you are truely a person with God in your heart, you would not be able to hurt the people around you for something as small as who they choose to live their lives with. certainly noone came and picked out your partner, why should you feel you have the right to choose how others want to live ????

especially since, the woman we are talking about is a black woman married to a white male.. with 4 (?) mixed children. you would think that there would be a bit of a more open mind in that area disbelief i just dont understand people.

If anything, this was learning expereince for both families. The Christrian family learned to be less rigid and give the kids some space. While, the lesbain couple learned to share household tasks with each other and have a special day designated for their daughter just to have fun.

"Christians" need to watch how they represent....

Tell the truth. You'd think Christians would be much more compasionate but so many of them are the ones who wind up being the bigots and use God as an excuse to be bigots or to be down right offensive. They don't realize that God isn't down with judgmental people and it'll come back and bite them in their behind if they don't watch their behavior. I'm a Christian too, but I got the revelation that God loves EVERYONE and not just certain people. It just bothers me when I read stuff like this cause this makes God look so bad to people when that's not a full or true view of Christians and God. I'm off the soapbox now.

And I agree with your comments too MF. I have Gay friends and I love them dearly. We are to love everyone as we love ourselves. I just wish other Christians would exercise more love instead of just talking about it continually. I do believe that there are more good than bad ones (Christians) out there.

I agree...I know MANY in the same circle as that woman...

which is why you should remind them "judge not lest ye be judged" the next time you hear one of your brethren denegrating the gay community. The church can only be changed from within on this issue by believers who will stand up to ignorance and hate when they see and hear it.

Amen to that.

Sadly, I think it's the "bad Christians" that have the loudest voices. And they have some mad organizing skills- look at what "they've" done to the political landscape in this country.

it's refreshing to hear y'all piping in on this subject. I often lose faith in Christians because of all the examples of hatred. It's good to be reminded that the 'haters' aren't necessarily the norm, they are just LOUD about it.

Unforunately, some truly don't understand the ministry of Jesus. We need to remember that it clearly states that the manner you judge others will be the same as you will be judged (along with forgiveness).

I watched it...and it broke my heart for the gay couple... sigh but, I have to say that if one good thing came out of it at least the world got to see, first-hand, just how ignorant and hateful some people are when it comes to gay folks.

that point is very true nod

my kids and i watch that show every week, but, this week lead to some serious questions in my house. my youngest, 7, said 'what does gay mean ?' so, i explained that to her... my oldest, 10, asked me if i would still love him the same if he were gay disbelief

aside from almost crying just for the fact that he would even feel the NEED to ask that question... i looked him in the eyes and said, 'sweetheart, i dont care WHO you bring home, man, woman, black, white, purple, green, whatever.... i will always love you, and i promise to love whoever you bring into our family. the only person i will not accept is one who doesnt treat you with all the love and respect you deserve.' he looked at me, thought about it for a minute and said... ok momma
but, the point is.. it is incredibly sad that even a CHILD the age of mine feel that they have to hide who they are just to fit into this world. now, i dont think my son is gay... which by the way wouldnt be a problem for me at all... but, i do think he wonders sometimes about how to fit into the world, and how others judge him. the black woman on this show had to be one of the most fucked up people i have seen in a LONG time... i hope after she watched the show she thought long and hard about just how cruel she was to these women.

clapping

When I asked my mother that (when I was still "questioning," I was 12) she said to me "People can choose to be whatever they want to be, it isn't my problem. I'll love my children either way, but I'll love them much more if they can give me a nice wedding to go to and grandbabies." I'm 16 and I still haven't told my parents I'm gay because of that.

the whole point of the show is to pick extreme families to represent their extreme beliefs. That black lady had a lot of nerve! I'm sure people feel the same way about her interracial marriage! Some ppl can only point fingers and they don't see that THEY themselves can be put in the same situation by society. had this crazy woman been living here before the Martin Luther king days she and her hubby would have been hung by sturdy rope from a tree...

However, eye don't think gay couples should be allowed 2 marry, but they should be allowed to have the rights that come along with having a partner (health benefits etc etc). these rights are human rights not rights for only straight married people. They should also be allowed 2 do a ceremony of some sort as long as they don't bring "a God" or "Gods" that don't support their beliefs (which is hard cuz all the major religions don't accept gay marriages) eye say make ur own god and he'll give u ur blessing LOL

That Christian lady is very immature in her faith. Plus that, did you see the house? Couldn't they downsize and give the extra money to charity?
