A friend says to me "so that was just awful about *** dying, huh?"
I had not heard that a friend of mine had died. He died in early December, so I was not able to go to the funeral, etc. I am bummed. My friend felt like crap for being the one to tell me. I am just glad he did!!!

In my family, I'm usually the last one to find anything out...I don't know why, that's just how it's been for a long time...

a few years back, i learned years after the fact that my favorite uncle had died. i was livid, but there was really nothing i could do about it, so i just kinda had to make my own peace with it. it kinda sucks, but it's not like i hurt my uncle's feelings by not showing up to the funeral, ya know? i just spent some time reflecting on him and wishing his spirit well, and i still think about him every now and then and smile.

i was living on an island when one of my favorite cousins died... "auntie" agnes...
everyone forgot to tell me - and casually mentioned it long after the fact. i felt so isolated.
sat on the dock, looking out over the water, thinking of how special she was and how much i would miss her.

hope you can move past the not knowing and on to the remembrance of your friend.

I hadn't seen him in a few years, but it was one of those relationships where you didn't have to. He was a professor of mine, back in college. Theatre majors are a tight little group, and tight with their director. he was just so damn funny, and talented, and loving, and straightforward. I have been blessed. But then, I knew that years ago, after a long talk with him, that he was someone who had touched my life in a rare way.
