Smoothies. Wow. Oh my goodness.

I got a smoothie maker in the mail from my grandmother last week as a late Christmas present.

Where has this thing been all my life? I have Jamba Juice in my kitchen now!

So far I've made a chocolate banana smoothie and a banana-berry yogurt smoothie...this stuff is just as good as what I've had at smoothie bars, and it's sooooo cheap and I can make tons of it. Wowee Zowee!

So...who's got the killer smoothie recipe? biggrin

I had a "Kiwi Quencher" smoothie at a health food place yesterday..it was surprisingly good. I tasted kiwi and a lot of strawberry. You could probably make that easily enough.
Try adding some soft tofu...it has no effect on the flavor but it makes a smoothie smoother and creamier and adds more nutritional value.
I always do some banana, some milk, some soft tofu, some strawberry banana yogurt.
For smoothies that have fruit in them...you might want to make sure to let the fruits ripen a bit, because that's when the sugars have broken down and made the fruit most tasty.

Oh yeah....if you can stand to wait, smoothies tend to be better cold, so pop it into the freezer for a few minutes before drinking.

Cherry-Berry Yogurt Smoothie

Ingredients:
1 cup plain low-fat yogurt ( 2P ) ( 2C )
2/3 ounce plain, unflavored or unsweetened soy protein powder (portion containing 14 grams protein) ( 2P )
1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract (in a non-alcohol, glycerine base)
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg or powdered ginger
1/4 teaspoon stevia extract powder
1/2 cup frozen, unsweetened blueberries ( 1C )
3/4 cup frozen, unsweetened cherries ( 1C )
1 1/3 teaspoons unrefined almond oil (or 2 teaspoons almond or cashew butter) ( 4F )
3 ice cubes (optional)
Instructions:
1. Place yogurt (or kefir, see NOTES below) and protein powder in the blender. Cover and blend until smooth; top and scrape down the sides with a spatula if needed. Add flavorings, spices, frozen fruit and oil (or nut butter). Blend until smooth. For added thickness, add 4 to 6 ice cubes then blend until thick & creamy.

Serving suggestions: Serve immediately or refrigerate in small jar or chilled thermos bottle, then serve within 24 hours.

VARIATIONS
* Cherry-Cantaloupe Yogurt Smoothie: Replace 1/2 cup blueberries with 3/4 cup cantaloupe. Prepare as above.

* Cherry-Berry Kefir Smoothie: Replace yogurt with 1 cup plain, unsweetened kefir, then add an extra 1/3 ounce protein powder (portion containing 7 grams protein). Prepare as above.

NOTES
This recipe can be found in "The Soy Zone" by Dr. Barry Sears.
