I really don't believe that every single white person thinks of you as inferior because you're black. You said yourself that your statement doesn't apply to all white people, but then you turn around and say that most whites think of black people as all the same; "from the same stock, so to speak".

And to that I say -bullshit.

When are minorities going to realize that playing the victim card doesn't help anything? Of course, there are probably always going to be white people that hate you or think of you as less than they are. It's a sad fact of life. But holding the attitude that "they all think we're inferior to them" as absolute truth and refusing to see anything beyond that only perpetuates racial tension. I see a similar pattern here in Canada regarding white people and First Nations people, and it's the same thing -bullshit. Both sides contribute equally to the shit that goes on, and it needs to stop.

Me? I'm Metis -a mix of white and Native blood. Where am I supposed to stand in all this? I'm I to assume that my white family members and white friends think I'm not as good as them because I'm not truly white? Am I also to think myself better than my Native friends and family members because I'm "better" than Native by way of my white blood? No, because I know better than that.

Apparantly, you are not understanding the difference between "most" and "all."I never said every single white person sees us as inferior. It's really easy for you to say "bullshit" to something that doesn't make sense to you. You couldn't possibly understand my experience as an African-American anymore than I can understand your experience as a Metis Canadian. It wasn't too long ago that a black man in Jasper, TX was dragged by the neck to his death. There are counties in this country, where the majority of its citizens are black, that do not get adequate government funding for education as there white counterparts. There are clubs and organizations that Oprah Winfrey can't get into simply because she is black. She couldn't even buy her way in. Black children are the last children to be adopted by non-black families. They rather take a child from another country than take a black one in their own. The United States has an amount of hatred so embedded in its roots and foundation that no amount of "one love" propganda will overcome it. I have been ignored by whites. I have been call a nigger TO MY FACE. I have been spit at. I have seen my brothas harrassed and beaten by the police. I have had white men tell me I must be good in bed simply because I am black. I have been told my skin color makes me dirty. I have seen political and non-political racism. I am not playing the "victim card"

You may be "better than that" but it is different when you are black. We have been fucked over so much that we are fucking ourselves over. Alot (NOT ALL) of us have color issues, social issues, and cultural issues. We didn't create it,it came from somewhere else. It's like adopting a child, raping the child, sending it out to fend for itself, not apologizing, and then telling them not to not think you hate them

People died for Shavonda to be able to even date a white man. They died for her to be able to live in that house as an equal and not a servant. For her to dimiss her race is the same as blasphemy as far as I am concerned

I think its funny how Karamo was grossed out by Shavonda having sex with Landon but wasnt grossed out by putting MJ's underwear over his head and sniffing them during the game of Truth or Dare. confused

Forget race, my problem with Shavonda is that she screwed over her boyfriend and expected him to not care because they were "seperated". When he snuck out of town to help his ex move, she freaked out. I'm black and I think Karamo is a rascist.

That happens every season. That's why I've lost interest in "The Real World". There's always that one person who's like "Ooooooh, I have a boyfriend/girlfriend, but it's gonna be FIVE MONTHS, so I couldn't POSSIBLY remain faithful to them!"

Why are we discussing young minded individuals on a TV show? It is obvious that these folks on TV have not experienced "life" for the most part and have narrow views on things. Once this poor confused child "Vonda" hits the real world apart from TV she will learn what it is to be African American whether she likes it or not. So there is no need in getting mad over any of it or causing arguments. Once these people have lived longer, had more relationships, dealt with co-workers and etc. Trust me, things will damn sure look differently. I thought the southern racist attitudes were gone until I had to drive across the country. Peoples mentalities are what they are and there is nothing anything anyone can do about it. Why do we care what a bunch of 20 year olds are doing on MTV? Especially, us "Grown Folks"!?!?! We know damn well that you can't mess around on the job! (But we do it anyway.) We know Shavonda will figure it out much later once she is in a real relationship that if you want a man you can't go around sleeping with other folks! We is the argument here? Life and opinions are what they are. They are different, they suck, they're racism, they're wrong and everyone has one. Give them all time to see the episodes and check out the reunion in about ten years. Shit will have their opinions and attitudes about a whole lot of things. Everything takes time. Stop beating a dead horse! twocents

hmmm I find you're perspective to be intersting. I understand where you are coming from in your responses b/c I have some friends in Canada. My background is Scottish, Irish,Native American, and African. However, I consider my self as Black.

I consider myself mixed, or Metis. Oddly enough, I'm legally considered Metis, but I've been told that I don't qualify for Metis status. According to our government, I'm Metis, except I'm not. smile Yeah, I don't get it either.

Contrary to what you apparently think, I do know what you're talking about.Care for a crash course in Canadian history and Native/White relations? Same shit, different colour. Orgnote me if you're interested in some informative links.

Before orgnoting you, I am going to assume the Native/White relations there are same as the Native/White relations here except our Natives are almost extinct thanks to our wonderful government wink thumbs up! I think it is different when a group of people already exist on a land and another group takes control of it. You get to keep your culture. The displaced Africans in America, better known as Black Americans or African Americans are in a different situation. We were taken from our lands, robbed of our culture, our traditions, our language, our families, and our dignity. Like I said before, it's the same as taking a child and then raping it. Our people have been raped on a large scale.

Ask the gay kid who grew up in a small, rural town if all straight people hate him. Chances are, he'll say yes.

That's because most of them do

The majority of white people do not hate black people

hmmm You know this, how? Whatever you read or see on tv about the U.S. is nothing compared to living here, even a white person will tell you that.Maybe things are different in Canada.I think race relations in the U.S. are different than anywhere else because of our history

Like I said, this show isn't even that interesting. Too bad that we will never get to see the truly interesting version of the show, which will happen 10 years from now, when these people are more mature.

It's really not that different at all.

You get to keep your culture.

You believe this?

The displaced Africans in America, better known as Black Americans or African Americans are in a different situation. We were taken from our lands,

Instead, the land was taken from the people and the people were forced onto reservations. Is it supposed to be any better in reverse?

robbed of our culture, our traditions, our language, our families, and our dignity.

I did say it was the same story, didn't I? Native children in Canada were taken from their families and forced to go to church and government run Residential Schools. In these schools, they were taught that their traditonal way of life was barbaric and something to be ashamed of. They would be beaten for speaking their own language, and as a result, many languages have been lost, probably forever. Countless numbers of these children suffered physical, emotional, and sexual abuse, and as an indirect result many of the victims have drug and alchohol problems. Some of these schools were still running as recently as the 1970's. Once they graduated these schools, many were no longer welcome back into their native communities because they were too "white", and also rejected by white society because they were too "Indian".

As another example: the Potlatch. Potlatch is Chinook jargon, and means "to give". It refers to a ceremony common to peoples on the Northwest Coast and parts of the Interior. The potlatch ceremony marks important occasions in the lives of the Kwak'wala groups: the naming of children, marriage, transferring rights and privileges and mourning the dead. Guests witnessing the event are given gifts. The more gifts distributed, the higher the status achieved by the potlatch giver. It is a time for pride. Frustration over unsuccessful attempts to "civilize" the people of the potlatch led officials, teachers, and missionaries to pressure the federal government into enacting legislation prohibiting the ceremonies. It was made illegal because it wasn't a white, "civilized" activity.

How about the right to vote? It was 1969 when all Native adults -men and women -got the right to vote across the entire country. 1969
Like I said before, it's the same as taking a child and then raping it. Our people have been raped on a large scale.
And so have ours.

Ask the gay kid who grew up in a small, rural town if all straight people hate him. Chances are, he'll say yes.

That's because most of them do

From his perspective, yes. But in the bigger picture? I have a hard time believing that most straight people hate gay people, just as I have a hard time believing most white people hate black people. There will always be bigoted assholes, but not as many as some think there are.

The majority of white people do not hate black people

You know this, how? Whatever you read or see on tv about the U.S. is nothing compared to living here, even a white person will tell you that.Maybe things are different in Canada.I think race relations in the U.S. are different than anywhere else because of our history

I can't say it for fact, just as you can't say for fact that most white people hate black people.
