I've never read the book, but I've always wanted to. I'm very interested in seeing this movie, especially reading the reviews of the test screenings.
I have the 6-part BBC series on my Netflix que, so I'm going to check it out and then read the book after I see the flick.

And I really like Martin Freeman in "The Office."

I'm more geared up for this movie than the next Star Wars.

I think it'll be awesome. All the pics I've seen from it so far and the art design suggest it's a very big movie with a lot going for it (especially since it is based on some of the funniest, sharpest SCI-FI/COMEDY of all time).

'Disaster Area' giggle

The Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy notes that Disaster Area, a plutonium rock band from the Gagrakacka Mind Zones, are generally held to be not only the loudest rock band in the Galaxy, but in fact the loudest noise of any kind at all. Regular concert-goers judge that the best sound balance is usually to be heard from within large concrete bunkers some thirty-seven miles from the stage, whilst the musicians themselves play their instruments by remote control from within a hevily insulated spaceship which stays in orbit around the planet - or more frequently around a completely different planet.

Their songs are on the whole very simple and mostly follow the simple theme of boy-being meets girl-being beneath a silvery moon, which then explodes for no adaquately explored reason.

Many worlds have now banned their act altogether, sometimes for artistic reasons, but more commonly because the band's public address system contravenes local strategic arms limitations treaties.

This has not, however, stopped their earnings from pushing back the boundaries of pure hypermathematics, and their chief researh accountant has recently been appointed Professor of Neo-mathematics at the University of Maximegalon, in recognition of both his General and his Special Theories of Disaster Area Tax Returns, in which he proves that the whole fabric of the space-time continuum is not merely curved, it is in fact totally bent.

From The Restaurant at the End of the Universe, Part 2 of Douglas Adams' 5 part Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy 'trilogy'.

SPOILER ALERT

Some people have already been putting down the casting of Mos Def as Ford Prefect - sounds like institutionalised racism 2 me. Personally, I think he's going to be brilliant. I was somewhat dismayed after hearing last year that they wouldn't be using Peter Jones as the voice of 'The Book'. But after recently hearing that Stephen Fry will be doing it, im totally floored with his casting.

...Prefect! thumbs up!

One thing that is worth pointing out however is the fact that the Hitchhiker's movie WILL differ from the book quite dramatically in parts - and this was Douglas Adam's own will. But it sounds like it more than holds it's own whilst staying faithful to the essence of it all according to the infamous 'Moriarty' from Aint It Cool and Chud.com:

Moriarty from aintitcool published also a short review on chud.com forum : "I'll say this much for now... if you're a Douglas Adams fan, prepare for a big wet sloppy kiss. This is an affectionate, huge-hearted tribute to the man's work and his sense of humor, right down to a final shot that almost brings tears to the eyes." He then published a bigger review (but with a lot of spoilers on aintitcool) : "I thought the film was a glorious shambling tribute to the work of Adams, a beautifully realized vision filled to the brim with quirky performances and hilarious details. It’s almost shockingly eccentric and manages to stay very faithful to the spirit of all the previous incarnations of the story while also contributing some fascinating new ideas to the overall mythos."

There was a test screening in L.A. a few days ago, and keep your eyes peeled online over the next few days, as the Trailer (ie: a proper trailer with completed footage!) is about to be dropped upon us!

DONT PANIC!
