Coming to Vegas. Americans, advice please!

Folk, I'm booking a trip to vegas soon, but I need to do the trip as cheap as possible. Does anyone know any really cheap but good near-strip motels/hotels?

Also, I'm going to driving to LA for a 2 days. Anyone know of cheap accomidation there?

Check out the Flamingo.

It's on the strip, pretty cheap and pretty decent...
