I for one, do believe... some children are special in that... resiliency is on their side.

Through my own years... I finally am convinced, many are born with the strength to cope and oversee the downs of life and if Jared has the insight and you have seen and believe... it may be the core that leads him to the faith and success you have for him. Some souls truly reconcile with life's mishaps and relate a purpose to why it is the way it is. If this does not break him eternally... this will perhaps strengthen his drive to succeed in all he does and so much more.

That makes me want to cry. I heard about this when it happened. Hopefully, Jared will be OK, and hopefully he has a good support system at home. He already has great support in you as a teacher. Some teachers are true inspirations that we never forget and I'm sure you're one of them to your students.

There is a way of thinking in the world right now that as soon as something bad happens to someone, they go off the rails and give up all the good they have in them.

I don't know if you guys say it over in the USA, but I have heard a phrase here in the UK that "YOU NEVER FORGET A GOOD TEACHER"

If you put the love into teaching and helping Jared that you put into your post above (which I'm sure you will) then he'll have a pretty damn good start in coping with this tragedy and coming out the other end as a bigger, better, stronger man.

Judging from your comments, and the impact he has made on you, it sounds like he has a really good head on his shoulders, and may still pull though. I'm sorry to hear about what happened and I wish him the best.

He is very fortunate to have a teacher like you in his corner at this most difficult time in his life. The loss of a parent can be a life altering expirence for a child, but the love and and commiment of teacher who truly cares, can also have a profound effect on a childs life.

It is truly sad when such a child like this is burdened with such turmoil, anyone with a heart should be feeling empathy for him. I liked the part of your article where he made a trophy for all of his classmates, were that to happen in my presence, I would be a blubbering mess of a man, not many adults have that much character. I will make a special effort to pray a special prayer for him and his family, and every person who may be suffering through such a crisis. A story like that is always quite sobering when going through the craziness of the ORG.

Prayers for this family, for this little boy, and for you, as you continue to be a person of care and encouragement for him. May you have continued strength in this calling of yours, because some kids will face what Jared has and make it through, and some will not. Some will face more than what he has, and shine, and some will have every opportunity given to them and throw it all away. These students of yours have a better chance of being and surviving because of you..someone who still sees hope and goodness and love. So don't stop seeing that! Such a tragic thing to occur to a small child... my prayers are with him and his family.

With the right support, love, affection and understanding I hope that the light inside him that you describe will not die but continue to shine brighter and brighter. ( you sound like a loving caring person - exactly the kind of people he needs around him). God bless Jared, his family & you.

We had to tell the kids in my class what happened yesterday so they would be prepared when Jared comes back to school next week. We just told them that Jared lost his daddy, we didnt say how he died, and they were really grief stricken.... truly this is terrible, but I feel that we can and will do for Jared all that can be done, I guess the rest is up to him and his family. Just wish there was more that we could do
