It can be! And people with that issue often aren't treated any better than people trying to lose weight. . . it's treated like a joke.

Had borderline low blood pressure, was dizzy, passed out once, and just generally felt terrible. Started eating again, gained the weight back, and felt vastly better. Would rather be fat than sick, personally. Plus, I had to be completely obsessed with food to eat so little for so long, which wasn't worth it to me. Now I try to focus on my health instead of my weight.
that's a good point I agree totally...it's definately about HEALTH see, I'm about 20kg over the "average" weight for my height, that's why speaking for myself I'm trying to lose weight. It's not healthy for me to be this big and I even had heart pulpitations for the first time in my life the other day because I'm that unhealthy right now... Health is definately more important than the weight thing but sometimes to be healthy you need to lose some weight... I just always hope that people will focus on making healthy lifestyle changes, rather than the numbers on the scale. Good luck.

Speaking for myself only, my focus is on my health not the number. My father hassles me about the number tho he thinks I should be 40kg which is very unrealistic even for someone my height. He's about the health side of it too (being his daughter he only wants me to be healthy) but he doesn't see past the number side of it sometimes...

I think I'm underweight, and for me it's nigh on impossible to put any on. I'm 6ft 3ins and weigh around 76kgs. I have a slim build so I'd never be anything other than slim, but I think I should be around 82 or 83 kgs at least. When I'm in the UK I can be about 2kgs more than when I'm here, even if I just stay there for a short holiday. While living here I just stay around 76kgs no matter what I do. Obviously a combination of the food I eat and probably the heat. Good thing about living here is that you are given constant reminders by the weather to drink a lot of water. It's very easy to get through 2 or 3 1.5 litre bottles of mineral water per day by yourself, not even including tea, ice tea and all the other stuff.
I've started working out and want to add a little muscle to my arms, chest and shoulders, but don't know what I can do to really give my body the fuel it will need for this. I'm worried I might start burning muscle when I'm trying to build it.

I'm worried I might start burning muscle when I'm trying to build it. Take your body weight and do this: WEIGHT(in pounds) X 1.15 X 10 That is the number of calories you must eat a day. Also do VERY VERY heavy squats. The squats are so stressful on your system that it produces more testosterone. As a result, you'll build musle easier in your chest or any other place you wish. The key to a big chest is squats--sounds crazy but it's true.

Living in Thailand I see girls that are around 40kgs and IMO that is too light for anyone. My wife is around 5ft 1 or 2 and in the past she's been as low as 48kgs and as high as 57kgs. She's only 3 or 4 inches taller thank you, Natisse, and 25 years old, and I think looks best at around 50kgs. Her sister is a couple of inches shorter and weighs 45kgs and looks really very thin, so I can't see how 40kgs could be healthy even for someone under 5ft. I must be honest, it's kinda freaky sometimes when u see the waists of some girls here. Waist size must be around 22 or something. For one, it must have implications regarding having children, and I find it hard to believe they're healthy at that size.

You've just got to resist that Macca's Tisse, it is no good for you. Have you tried any of their "healthy range"?
I'm 6 feet tall and weigh 98 kgs (I need to lose about 5kgs). I can put on either weight just by looking at food it seems. On the positive side I can put on muscle just by thinking about exercise. I believe I have a slow metabolism. I have a friend who is about 5'11" and weighs 63kgs. He is as skinny as a rake and can eat whatever shit he likes and not put on weight. I guess your genes play a big part in your body size and shape. When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading.

Gene's do play a BIG part in it, yes...my Mum had a weight problem all her life and battled every day to eat the right thing and exercise I've inherited that unfortunately and there's nothing I can do except TAKE CONTROL like she did...she's my inspiration when it comes to this ...and you're right about the Macca's I joke about it but I'm serious when I say it's like an addiction (and I'm talking about junk food in general here) for instance I've got a bottle of diet coke sitting next to me now which I shouldn't be drinking I don't know when the last time I drank any water was!
