OK BLACK PEOPLE - I need to Know this....

EVERY SINGLE BLACK FRIEND I have, who has dark skin or is of obvious Carribean or African background, seems to be completely ashamed of being dark.

I mean all of them -- 100%. What I want to know is, what is so wrong with being dark?

All my black friends are light skin blacks.

But I have heard some of them joking about Bernie Mack, and the comments my friend VIckie has made about him are, shall I say--funny but aweful.

There is nothing wrong with being dark, but if you're as dark as Anthom, it can't be skin color--it HAS to be Soot.

I'm pretty dark skinned, though I am not black. I hate people who tan...especially the fake Bakes..they look horrible. I just don't get it. Poeple should love their skin color.

Our culture has been conditioned over centuries to believe that white skin and blonde hair is the epitomy of beauty. Being that African-Americans are the descendants of slaves, we are far removed from that "standard". So many of us internalize that notion that light skin is the most beautiful. Thats why dark skinned blacks are less desirable in the minds of the less than enlightend. Having said that, I think that this ridiculous mindset is fading into obsurity and rightfully so.

i'm fine with myself. I'm like a caramel-goldish-bronze-ish-reddish type color.
