Anyone have DSL? is it any good? i've been thinking of getting it but i don;t want to go all out and get it if it turns out that it's just as slow and crappy as dial up.

i got dsl with my phone company sbc. it's way better than dial up. it's not super fast but its faster than dsl. and i only have one phone line so it was a bitch trying to be online and someone would call and i'd have to cut internet off. now i don't have to worry about it.

that's where i get my DSL from too, but i don't have any issues with it. but i don't use their browser software - i use internet explorer instead. the sbc browser software seemed to muck some stuff up for me, like being able to save pictures as desktop images and stuff like that.

Ive used both cable and dsl, and from my experience, cable had much better support. Many times they would even send people right to my place to fix problems, like that day or the next. And they hooked me up with wireless for only a one time fee of $29.95. So now both computers are wireless.

If you're currently using a dialup connection, then you should be very happy with DSL. While I think that for most people, a cable modem is slightly better, either choice is fine. I've used both and been satisfied. Please note: effective March 21, 2010, I've stepped down from my prince.org Moderator position. |

I think Verizon is going to start offering FTTP next year.
You may want to look into that. I think it'll be 622Mps as oopsed to DSL and cable getting around 30-54mps

I just got 256/512 ADSL, but I don't really get it. The first time I connected it said 8Mbps, then the next few times 2.5Mbps, and now 512kbps. What's the deal here? Am I getting screwed? My friend got the 128 and his always connects around 2Mbs.
My local area connection always says 'limited or no connectivity' but the company won't send someone out to take a look, or even just explain why it might say that. My father's is 100Mbps and that's beautiful. I wish I had that!

DSL is definitely worth it. You don't miss calls, overall speed is much faster and you can download big Prince files from Housequake.com in a matter of minutes!
'Nuff said! If you spend a lot of time online, DSl is the way to go. Cable is even faster from what I hear, but DSL gets the job done. My author page: https://www.amazon.com/au...eretttruth

My DSL just got upgraded from 128k to 256k a couple of weeks ago. I'm downloading at around 30k/s. It's pretty good, but not as good as one of my friend's cable connections. I was downloading at his house at 450k/s or somewhere around there.

I have cable at home and it rocks!
I have DSL here at work and it is great too. Not as good as cable but 100 times better than dial up. When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading.

thank you all so much for your feedback. when i was living at home we had cable but it's a bit out of my price range right now. DSL is doable though I'm definitely going to call and get it done on my next day off. I'll be able to watch videos again!

DSL rocks
Had it from the moment it was available for public here, and can't see myself ever back to 56k. [Edited 12/4/04 14:47pm]

[Edited 12/4/04 15:19pm] Well, mine downloads at around 200kb per second, sometimes more, but that's the average. meaning about 10-15 MB per minute. Great for porn
