Restless legs... and so tired but cannot sleep

Ever since my teens I have suffered from restless legs and pains in shoulders and legs, in all likelihood it's all psychosomatic. Most often these things occur when I am about to go to sleep, and painkillers worked to keep it under control... then 2 days ago I ran out of painkillers, and I thought "I'll get a new prescription, how bad can it get in 2 days?"
2 days later I'm writing this at 4.14am and the answer to the question is "hellabad". I've ransacked my house in search of some leftover painkillers but of course there aren't any. I took two mild downers hoping they would help me fall asleep, but all that happened was that I found myself twisting and turning in bed, half asleep and half awake neutral

I just want to fucking sleep. sigh

Any other sufferers from pains of this kind?

I'm sorry to hear this teacher sad I can't say I've had the pain in the shoulders but I've had the restless leg syndrome for as long as I can remember since I was a kid...when I'm not feeling the best emotionally it's always worse - lots of sleepless nights

You probably already know this, but it IS an actual syndrome that you can get things to help with it...google and see what you can come up with

hope you're sleeping better soon...I cosign with Mach - here's a big hug

Teacher

Thanks girls hug Right back to you both.

I know Natisse, but my probs are psychosomatic so it doesn't count as the "real" RLS confused Which means that I'm going to a physical therapist specialising in psychosomatic and psychomotoric, and also going to "regular" therpay. That and the painkillers will have to do, I was just stupid enough not to refill my prescription last week duh

Sooo tired, thinking about taking a sleeping pill and hope for the best now. yawn

I have had restless leg syndrome off and on since I was a kid too. Usually happens when I am overtired or upset. The worst was when I was pregnant. My doctor told me then to take Benedryl, which I did every night for the last two months of my pregnancy. He also said the regular treatment for this is antidepressants, which I couldn't take at the time. Hope this helps.

Hi Teacher, You might want to try calcium and magnesium tablets for the restless legs, it might work, I don't know what dosage, you could look it up. I had similar problems that the doctor first said was psychosomatic, then they said I had fibromyalgia, then they were certain I had Lupus with fibromyalgia and finally it turned out that I have rheumatoid arthritis. It took ten years for anything to show up in my bloodwork. The doctors told me that people are often misdiagnosed with these problems.Far too often people are told that they have psychosomatic problems when the real problem is something else entirely. For fibromyalgia, they give a very low dose of Elavil to help you sleep deeper and exersizes to stretch those aching areas. Also, there really is an emotional connection with all these problems, most people with active disease seem to have some abuse or other emotional problems sometime in their lives. This was true for me.I would suggest seeing a good rheumatologist for a second opinion and have faith that you will find out some solutions to your problems. Hope you get some sleep soon! smile

Thanks for the input, I am starting to believe it's something neurological hmmm My calcium AND magnesium levels are great, levels of everything are great but still it's bothering me, so something HAS TO BE NOT GREAT mad

Thanks again for the input, your post has made me more determined to get to the bottom of it and not accept it as psychosomatic. Thank you! hug rose
