I only found out about this today...

Record companies are planning to launch a new format that they've invented themselves called "DualDisc". It's basically a CD glued onto a DVD.

The DVD content will either be RAM, Video or DVD-Audio.

For some reason Phillips, aren't letting the record companies use the CD logo - even though one side is a CD.

Personally, I think it's a great idea. I've no idea how much extra the discs will retail at.

They tried this a few years back, and it was met with zero enthusiasm from audiences. I've got one dualdisc: The Donna's new album. Sometimes, the CD player has trouble reading it. Personally, I think it's too gimmicky to catch on. Maybe it'll find an actual use rather than additional promo material.
