I saw a commercial on TV for this movie, and thought the same thing about it being scary. Looks like a good movie, if you like scary flicks (like I do).
RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

I may check it out on DVD, I usually don't get scared at all anymore, the last one that made me feel uncomfortable was Seven, but this one I hope lives up to the hype and it isn't one where you see the scariest parts in the trailer.

I have ideas for my own horror/thriller movie I'm writing though.

biggrin

(No, it doesn't involve penguins or Liza Minelli/David Gest, although that's truly uncalled for.)

i own the seven dvd. Seven disturbs me too. i like kevin spacey's acting in this one. i think its more disturbing because it can happen.

I'm just going to cross my fingers and hope it isn't another promising-looking flop. neutral
But so far it looks good.

yeah. They're always remaking the Japanese versions...which are more blood and gore than the US versions. It's a part of the series that included Ringu

What about The Eye? I haven't seen that one yet. I want to so bad though. The movie stores here suck....so I'll probably just download it from somewhere.

I bought 'The Grudge' the other day, save your money - dont bother!

I normally like Asian horror, but this is real low-budget, filmed on video cmera, low-tech...shite basically.

Seriously, it's more like watching a theatre play. Pretty poor - very disapointing.
(So much so I took it back and got a refund, and I haven't done that in like, forever!)

Check out 'Uzumaki'* instead!

Exactly-horror based in a more realistic atmosphere is always scarier to me than stuff that is just too out there even for me to be scary.

Kevin Spacey to me made that movie what it is. Freeman and Pitt both put in great performances, but they played so well off each other that it never lost the fact that this could happen to someone you know or even you.

Pitt's reaction especially seemed the most realistic.

Loved it.

ReRe

I saw the previews on TV for that. It looks pretty scary but so did the ring and the ring in my oppinion was more just creepy than actually crap your pants scary. I'm a big horror film addict though so even some of the goreyest of things don't scare me. I might go eww, gasp or even cover my eyes but I still keep watching hahahaha.

Actually, this film is not related to Ringu at all. Ringu was a much better film than Ju-On (the Japanese version of Grudge). Ju-On really isn't a good film. It's a nice looking film, but it's more like long nicely filmed sequences of boredom puncuated by screaming and short orchestra hits.

On the whole, I'm not really a proponent of remaking films just because people are too damn lazy to read subtitles. In this case, I'm hoping the remake is better, because the original was seriously lacking.

Ju-On was filmed in 35 mm, not on video. I'm wondering if you saw the first version of it. It was originally made in 2000, then redone in 2003, if I'm remembering correctly. I've not seen the first one, but the version I'm familiar with - though boring - at least looks nice.

I saw the movie remake ('Ju-On: The Grudge')

I havent seen the original TV movie (Ju-On) yet I am waiting on my friend in Japan 2 send me a copy:

Ive never seen 35mm film stock look like that., but bizzarly enough, that's the case - the original TV version from 2000 was made on video (albeit high grade Tv quality) and The Grudge remake from 2003 on film stock - im thinking that it's 16mm blown up - and that could be why it doesnt look as warm as film stock, and looks so 'clean' and crisp:

I just found it very disapointing after all I'd heard about it. I HATED The American remake of 'The Ring' - but have 2 say, (somewhat surprisingly) that what ive seen so far of the remake of 'The Grudge' it looks like it'll piss over the version of it I saw.

oops...I shoulda been more clear...but it's from the same writers. Thanks for clearin' it up. Yeah, I'm not too crazy about subtitles either....I like to look at the actual graphics/details and see what's actually goin' on. What about "Dark Water"....have you seen that one yet?

It was CREEPY!! I think they did a fantastic job of building up the anticipation of the horror to come. After the first 10 minutes or so a women seated near me said to her companion "I don't think I can take 2 more hours of this!!" Lots of tension and such. At one point I realized I had squeezed the napkin in my hand into the tiniest little ball ever and I could barely unclench my fist. Any movie that inspires that kinda physical reaction is alright in my book.

It was excellent. They kept the scares at a good amount and pace. I may see it again.
