As some may know, my grandmother had been real sick these past few months. She passed away last night. I am betwwn many feelings right now. Sad to see her pass. Happy she’s not suffering anymore. Knowing my aunt is having a hard time right now, as she took care of her these last few weeks. I’m between sorrow, sadness and melancholy. So much to do to get myself out to Chicago, and I have barely the energy.

She was a lovely woman. Very strong. Quite friendly..not to warm, as not many could get close, but friendly and nice to all. I know she didn’t have that many friends and that’s sort of sad. She did live a full life, so I am happy for that. We don’t have much family either. It’s going to be strange to see people I haven’t seen in years…I am fearing that too, as some I care for are probably much older that I think, and that’s gonna be tough.

I think what I going to miss most about my gram is her cooking. She could cook up a storm. She had special recipes that required special pans and dishes you can’t get anymore. Many recipes were denied to me due to this fact. There was one however that was always a special treat for the family. It was called Chamb Tourte. It was this…well not pie and not cake, though it looked like a pie…sort of a lemon merangueish looking thing. It was made with cream cheese, whipped cream and pineapple. You backed it, but it was served cold. It is one of my favorite things. We’d have it at special family functions, and then less often as the years progressed and there were less family gatherings.

I am sure she’s in a better place…seeing her late husband…heck probably all 3. And my mom. They are all “saying hi” to quote bowie.
