Have you ever noticed how the actors and actresses in sitcoms who act kind of airheaded and ditzy seem to get the most laughs and seem to be the most popular characters? Several examples that come to mind are Betty White, who played the part of Rose on "The Golden Girls', and Jean Stapleton, who played the part of Edith on "All in the Family", to name just a few. I wonder why the dimwitted acting characters get the most recognition on the sitcoms. Any thoughts on this, besides the fact that they make us laugh by acting silly?

Becuase there are a lot of stupid people out there. I guess it's easier to identify with Edith than Meathead.

because "airheads" as u call them come over as non threatening,pleasant and easy going.
