Little Shits!

so i'm trying to grow this beautiful lily on my back deck, it's called a Freckle Face Lily...

... and it's finally starting to bloom, after i had pretty much given up.

so then i notice these adorable little caterpillars munching on the leaves...

aren't they funky looking? like straight out of Shrek...

and since i'm a non-killing, animal loving Buddhist, and they are not eating the leaves of the actual blooms, i figure, let them have at it.

until...

i find out that, not only are they highly digestively prolific, ( can you say pooptoast ) but their little hairs are actually poisonous, and any contact with them produces an allergic reaction similar to a bee sting. mad

now what? i've been stung twice, just brushing up against the plant. i don't want to kill them no no no! , and moving them to another place in the yard just makes them sting me somewhere else.

guess i'll just have to avoid them by a yard or two... sigh

Stinging caterpillars?

Well, I'm glad I live in England. No sharks, hurricanes, earthquakes* or guns* either.

*OK, a few tiny ones but nothing compared to US.

Can't you remove them to another plant somewhere else? Wearing some thick gloves or somthing?

lol i'm glad to report that, despite both Hurricane Francis and Ivan coming to North Carolina, we are still safe from sharks here in Charlotte! thumbs up!

Glad to hear you got through Ivan & Francis, but how can you be sure that they didn't whip up some sharks into the sky and deposit them into a nearby lake? Be real careful walking your dogs near water....

That looks quite nasty even though I do like caterpillars, usually they are adorable. We only have these in our lilies (I hope the pic comes here right)

you have to admit, this one is really funky looking! it's only about an inch long, so it's kinda chunky actually, plus the wild coloring...

Don't do this! You'll just end up with something else in their place and you'll have to start again! Before you know it, you'll have lions in your garden.

hug Thanks my love.

Thinking maybe if your lucky, these catepillars maybe eaten by birds or something... or maybe the birds are too scared from 'em or will die as a result... hmm... this is quite a predicament... sad
