PREDOMINANT said: I was walking my sister’s dog (an extremely obedient and intelligent Border collie) on a lead yesterday in a quiet village. With my dog close to heal, on a short lead I passed a couple of women walking a dog (also on a lead) but clearly not under control. As we passed, their dog whipped round behind them and went straight for mine. In a lame effort to prevent a dogfight I stepped forward and received a lovely bite on my thigh. It was only a midsize dog but boy did it hurt. The bite went straight through my jeans and into my flesh. The bruising is very pretty.
What the hell do you do in a situation like that? I was stunned, the dogs owners were stunned. We just stood there with them apologising and me in shock. Then we just went our separate ways. Then like a girl I felt sick and had to have a sit down. My sister’s dog was so scared with this "what did I do" look on his face, awwwww. I hope you got the owner's phone number. She is liable for any medical expenses. Make sure to get medical attention for that bite. It can become infected if it is not treated. My mom had an annoying Jack Russell that had BAD MANNERS. My family was celebrating my daughter's baptisim at a park and she refused to leave the dog at home. She tied him to a tree and let everyone know that the dog was not "baby friendly". I told her that we can't watch all the kids 100 percent of the time, she needed to make sure that her dog was not going to bite any of the kids. Sure enough, I heard a bark and a scream. I ran over to the dog to find a 2 year old child crying on the ground right next to the dog. The dog had bit the baby forearm. Not a bad bite, but it was still enough to break the skin and hurt the child. She was liable for the doc bills, and was told by animal control that her pet was not safe and needed "pet behavior classes"

They have the same physical makeup that pitbulls have, that the jaws lock when they bite. There are different kinds of jack russels, but generally I hate the little creatures fiercely. In Sweden they are responsible for the most numbers of bites on children every year. SMALL DOG DOES NOT MEAN FRIENDLY!!!!!

I have a Sheltie. He's very well mannered, But he is very protective. He is not good with infants. He will snap at them if they get close to him. This is the only problem I have with him. I bought him when he was 8 weeks old. He was sold to another person at 6 weeks and brought back 2 weeks later to the original owner. The person that bought him had a small child (2 years old) that hit him, pulled on his ears, and bit him. The person that returned him said they could keep the child from attacking him. (wtf???) so they had to return him.
I fell in love with him the moment I saw him. The seller informed me about the "abuse" and asked me if I had children. He has never tried to bite me or my children. He is very gentle with my kids. I strongly believe that the owner is responsible for their dogs behavior. They only know what you teach them.....
