Cupping Has anybody been cupped?
"Cupping is an ancient Chinese procedure performed by acupuncturists to treat everything from lower back pain and arthritis to lung congestion, even infertility. Think of it as an intense, vigorous massage-with a whole lot of suction action. During a cupping procedure, heated cups are placed over the skin and left there for anywhere from a few minutes to as long as 30. As the air inside the cup cools, the skin and underlying tissue is "sucked" up into the cup-thus the marks-increasing blood circulation to the area." here is the link: http://www.azcentral.com/...ng-ON.html I had it done a few days ago and I have to say that I didn't find it painful at all, more like somebody pinching your skin firmly but not painfully. I had heard that it is good for various ailments including back pain and stress (Which is why I did it) Has anyboy else had it and what did you think?

this is the thing that gwyneth (sp?) paltrow had recently, right, and it made a lot of press?
i don't know anyone who's had it done, no, but if it works then let me know.

you know when you confuse cupping for spooning, suddenly this thread isn't quite as interesting as it could be. All those who believe in telekinetics, raise my hand...

Yes she had it done, I'm not sure what for but she has just had a baby so it may have been for sleepless nights etc. I think it works, It helped my back pain a lot. That is not to say that alternative medicine works for everyone, but you get tired of taking pils etc. I wonder if it will work for my Hayfever

I've experienced cupping, but not that particular type of cupping.
So, did it work ? Are you de-stressed and de-pained ? I believe leeches are just as effective. Lemmy, Bowie, Prince, Leonard. RIP.

I have had cupping done many times. Mostly for muscle tension in my shoulders. It was extremely effective. It brings healing to that area for days. It left a mark on me for a few days but well worth it. It brings blood to the area being cupped and heals very fast.

Fortunately, yes. Although I did have a prawn salad sandwich, which just got me thinking, prawns look a bit like sautéed anaemic leeches. :runstotoilet: Lemmy, Bowie, Prince, Leonard. RIP.

no, you cannot do it yourself. You would need the proper tools and someone to do it to you. I would only have it done by someone who has been trained in oriental medicine.

Cupping or having ur skin suction capped is very common in my family. They have been doing it for over 2 or 3 generations. The main purpose is for minor ailments and back pain associated with stress and colds and flu. It is great when U have a virus or sore muscles but since I studied and now practise massage therapy, I don't recommend it 2 be done frequently, because it adds further stress 2 ur largest organ, ur skin and does not fully allow the oxygen to flow correctly.

Hi Pantha, Yes I dont think it's something you should do on a weekly basis like say acupuncture, the skin needs time to heal properly. Although my marks are fading I will leave it a while before I do it again. unlucky 7! Please dont try it yourself, only use a qualified practitioner.
