Primary Hard Disk Failure

So I got high and drunk last night. Turned off my screen, left the computer on though, made a phone call and left someone a message. All happy, relaxed and tired I put my head on the pillow and fell asleep.

Woke up at 1:30pm and as usual I thought I'd check my email. When I turned on the screen my heart paused for a few seconds...I can't believe the bitch died on me. Just like that, no warning, nothing. Ran the Maxtor diagnostics program...nada. I can't believe I had all that shit on it that I hadn't made any back ups of yet. In the past 9 years I've built many systems for myself and other people, but this is the first time something like this actually happened to me. Ironically only a few months ago I mentioned to someone I've never had a HD just die on me like that. Yesterday I got a spindle of 100 DVD+R's and was planning on backing up some shit. disbelief

Now I gotta run to the store and get me a new one. So beware folks, don't fuck with me today, I'm not in the mood. mad

Yes, I should have known, but one more day and I would have made my back ups. Spending the money on a new HD isn't even what pisses me off the most, it's the fact that the other one was only 18 months old and never gave any read/write errors and now I lost a bunch of data. I mean we're talking about approx 60GB of porn, appz and most importantly a bunch of pics someone sent me. bawl

Hard Disks should not be allowed to die on people! Video cards, optical drives, screens, ... those can die. But NOT Hard Disks disbelief

Believe me, i know your pain, and if something similar happens to me again (not likely, i'm using two hard drives now) i swear i will smash my computer to pieces without hesitation. It's either that or beating up the next fella that steps on your toes in the street, 'cause u gotta get it out of yer system. Hope your trip to the store was a safe one wink

Oh boy. That sucks but I think I can help you. Let me walk you through a "Hardrive boot recapture procedure":

Disconnect the motherboard's databank from the RAM input valve and let it sit (be sure to label the wires: red is data influx; yellow is data redux); while this is humming you can re-Java your whole memory card and wipe the "event" clean for maximum eco-parsing. While you are washing your dishes let the tachyon strip charge and then the elements for a recapture event (or "recap ev" as we experts call it) are all in place.

Reassemble the components following the steps backwards (but switch steps 3 and 4) and it should do the trick. You won't be able to use it, but...

IDE cables, power cables, controllers, master, slave, , Power Max diagnostics, nothing works. Even tried it on two different systems, bitch keeps "bleeping", which in this case sounds like a cell phone ringing. hehe No, it's not the system speaker, it's the HD itself.

Defragging is actually pretty pointless for todays HD's (if u stay under 80% of full capacity).
