the honeymoon's over

okay, so i've been in New York City for two and a half months and i'm no longer infatuated with the place. don't get me wrong, i'm glad that i'm here and i am still enjoying myself but i'm also a bit homesick. I miss being able to go for days without hearing loud and upsetting noises. I miss being able to listen to a thunderstorm without all the car alarms in the neighborhood going off. My biggest peeves is hearing parents telling their children to "shut the fuck up". who the hell speaks like that to a child? I don;t recall hearing that at home and i've heard it countless times since i;ve moved.

in anycase, i'm going back home in september for my dad's birthday and i really can;t wait. a break is in order. neutral

That's the way I felt about London after a bit. There's seriously no escape from the noise, or the people, or the crime.

I lived in New York City for almost a year, after having moved there after having lived my entire life up till then in North Dakota, so I completely understand where you're coming from.

I really loved NY, too, and all its excitement and opportunity. But it does start to wear on a person after awhile:, the more abrupt people, all that endless noise and constant motion, *especially* when you're used to a more slow-paced, gentle environment.

After awhile of being in NY, my thing was that I missed having grass to walk around in, and more trees, and being in close proximity to the lakes. And driving. I really missed my car.

You're right about how your feelings about NY will come and go, and how sometimes you'll really love it and then other times it can drive you insane. I guess that's just one of the trade-offs of living in such a city.

where are you living? I lived in the East Village, which was quite a culture shock for me! lol

i live in brooklyn, which isn't as crazy as manhattan but it can still be too damn loud. people are friendly in my neighborhood but i would like it if just once i could walk down the damn street without some guy making some comment. just LEAVE ME ALONE! i'm just trying to walk to the train! sigh glad you know what i'm talking about though.

I'm glad you're in a friendly neighborhood, but I know what you mean about people making comments at you all the time. sigh sad I hated that, too. I used to always walk with my head down, looking at the sidewalk and pretending I didn't hear anything. After awhile I started wearing headphones everywhere and that helped.

I got lost once when I went to Brooklyn for a job interview at a dairy there. I couldn't find the subway station after my interview and I was so scared.

NY really is a place you both love and hate at the same time. But once you've lived there, part of you always wants to go back, I think.

Yup I agree good Ole NYC. I tell you what. I will stick to my smaller cities where you can actually see a star or 2 and Beable to sleep with some kind of peace. Where people have some manners and decencie.. Not all new yorkers are like that but way to many are.. (No offense to the yorkers)

actually i am. i've been tweaky that rant that i posted some time ago and it's finally starting to get interesting. it's still mostly character development and descriptions and no plot but the plot is slowing getting there. i beginning to see a direction where i can take this thing. it can be so frustrating sometimes. I'm going to this writing class-workshop thing in a few weeks. maybe it'll help me out a bit.

how about you? rose
