WORLD ANGLO-INDIAN DAY!

I don't know if there are any other Anglo-Indians who hang at this site, but if there are...HEY!!! wave woot! But this is not to exclude everyone else!!
There are just so many people who don't know much about who Anglo-Indians are and what their culture'z aboutz!!
When people ask what nasho I am, and i tell them, they're like 'dat soundz like musical instrument' giggle ...ofcourse there are those who have pleasantly surprised me with their knowledge!!

To read up on the History of Anglo-Indians, go here: http://www.alphalink.com....jean1.html
(There'z quite a bit of text datz why i've posted a link!!)
For a short explanation, basically we are the result of the British Rule in India. Enough said. As a result, a new diverse culture was concieved...that of great beauty (inside AND out wink giggle hey i'm biased...)

Famous Anglo-Indians...

Sir Cliff Richard - popular amongst older generation..specially da chicks falloff

The late Freddy Mercury - I just found this one out recently!

Here's a famous Anglo-Indian dish...very similar to a Burmese dish actually...

Mulligatawny Soup

"Mulligatawny Soup is the best known Anglo-Indian dish in this country. Meaning "chilli water" in Tamil, it was probably invented by an Indian chef to suit his English masters' fondness for soup, a dish not commonly eaten by Indians. Of course it evolved throughout the years and even know you can find dozens if not hundreds of different recipes. The one below is a combination of a couple. You can also make the soup vegetarian by skipping the chicken, or use another type of meat. You can use cream instead of coconut milk, and add other ingredients such as rice, curry leaves, tamarind concentrate and celery."

Ingredients

1 1/2 lbs chicken thighs
6 cups water
1 tablespoon ghee
1 onion, chopped
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 1" piece fresh ginger, chopped
2 jalapeno chilies, seeded and chopped
1 carrot, chopped
1 apple - peeled, cored, and chopped
1 large potato, peeled and diced
1 cup red lentils
1/4 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp. ground cloves
2 tsp. ground coriander
1 1/2 tsp. ground cumin
1 tsp. ground turmeric
4 cardamom pods, bruised
1 tbsp. lemon juice
2 cups coconut milk
2 tbsp. chopped fresh cilantro

Instructions

In a large pot, simmer the chicken, covered, in 4 cups of water until tender, about 30 minutes. Remove from the pot and reserve the water. Let the chicken cool and then debone and chop into large chunks. Set aside.

Heat the ghee in a large pan and add the onion, garlic, ginger and chilies. Sautee until the onion is tender. Take off the heat and add this mixture to the water from the chicken.

Add the remaining 2 cups of water to the pot and then add the carrot, apple, potato, lentils, cinnamon, cloves, coriander, cumin, turmeric and cardamon pods. Simmer covered until the vegetables are tender, around 15 minutes.

Add the lemon juice, coconut milk and cilantro, stir until heated through and serve.

*note this is not a family recipe..if my nana saw this she would be shakin her finger no no no! and sayin it's all wrong...my guess shrug giggle

Well...i hope you guyz found this mildly interestingz!! giggle

wave Have a great day y'all!!!

I actually like this song redface but shhh don't tell nobody

Devil Woman ~ Cliff Richard

I've had nothing but bad luck
Since the day I saw the cat at my door
So I came here to you, sweet lady
Answering your mystical call
Crystal ball on the table
Showing the future, the past
Same cat with them evil eyes
And I knew it was a spell she'd cast.

*Chorus
She's just a devil woman
With evil on her mind
Beware the devil woman
She's gonna get you
She's just a devil woman
With evil on her mind
Beware the devil woman
She's gonna get you from behind.

Give me the ring on your finger
Let me see the lines of your hand
I can see me a tall dark stranger
Giving you what you hadn't planned
I drank the potion she offered me
I found myself on the floor
Then I looked in those big green eyes
And I wondered what I came there for.

(Repeat chorus)

Stay awake
Look out
If you're out on a moonlit night
Be careful of the neighbourhood strays
Of a lady with long black hair
Tryin' to win you with her feminine ways
Crystal ball on the table
Showing the future, the past
Same cat with them evil eyes
You'd better get out of there fast
She's just a devil woman
With evil on her mind
Beware the devil woman
She's gonna get you.
In spite of the cost of living, it's still popular.

half anglo half east indian

where does that leave me? Lost between two cultures. Not completely accepted at the indian functions and I'm not really anglo so that leaves me lost until I read this post and I see that there is actually an anglo-indian day.

I guess i've seen it all but then again why shouldn't i expect this considering there are over 1 billion indians in india. does that mean indians like to fuck?

I have a different feeling about it. I'm not proud to be an indian and I'm not proud to be anglo and I'm not proud to be an anglo-indian. I'm not ashamed to be this as well.

I have a problem using the word proud in this case because I had no control over it and it's not like it's something I accomplished. Proud is a very strong word to me like the word love. For me to be proud of something there must be an accomplishment to warrant this feeling. I really don't think I accomplished anything with my ethicnical background.

Not to take away from your feelings because it's good to be happy with who you are!

With my reason about pride; if people understand this and accept it as a fact then there shouldn't really be an racism because we don't chose what race we are, we have no control over this so why should someone hate a person because of there race?

Does this make any sense or have I hit the bong too much this evening?
