Is it just me, or are men so much easier to live with than women?

Now, don't get me wrong. I'm female myself, so I'm not dogging us girls. Also, I know that not everyone is the same.. I know not all women behave this way and not all men are this way.. eh, enough disclaimer.

It's just that... well, I'm 23, about to be 24, and I've lived in a "roommate" situation about 6 or 7 different times. Mostly with just other women. Now I live with 3 male roommates in a house.. and it's absolutely perfect. The first time I lived on my own, I lived with a guy for about a year. It too was a perfect situation.

1. Men don't care TOO much about decorating. They know what they like, but they're not so stuck in it that they get deadset against anything you want to put up or do.

2. No need to worry about any of my clothes coming up missing.

3. They like to drive everywhere.

4. I don't have to mow the grass, and if I have a car problem like a flat- I've got someone around to help me fix it.

5. They're not quite as catty in a living situation. If I get 2 percent milk instead of whole, they don't stomp around, sigh heavily and slam doors for two hours before it's out of their system.

I know men and women are different.. but this is just from my experience. Men are so much easier to live with than women. Any other women agree with me or am I just a freak? LOL!

I prefer living with girls, if I gotta have a roommate at all. shrug Maybe it's the gay guy/straight girl dynamic, I dunno. It's always worked out for me much better than living with a male roommate - though for a while, I DID live with a straight guy and it was a pretty good arrangement...he was always at his girlfriend's, which was nice, but when he was home he was definitely the Felix and I was the Oscar. That's rare in my roommate history. Usually I'm the Felix.

I can dig living with another gay guy if it's someone I'm dating, mainly because it's easier to yell at them if they get on my nerves, and if we wind up getting in a huge fight as a result - hey, make-up sex! biggrin

That's so interesting. The guy that owns this house, one of my male roommates, is also the guy i lived with for a year when I first moved out. He has said that having me move in and being the only female has changed the place for the better. So.. maybe guys prefer to live with females. smile

I had a male roommate who was gay.. the only problem I had with him was that I couldn't steal his big worn out t-shirts to sleep in. razz He didn't have many.

I don't know if guys are easier to live with then girls or not, but I adapt pretty easily to different situations so maybe I just haven't noticed. shrug

I prefer living with girls just because all the boys I've lived with are so damn messy. They're also really, really insensitive when it comes to noise, especially when they come home late, drunk off their asses... oh, and they like to bring all their buds back afterwards, too.

I guess none of that kind of stuff bothers me because I do it too. boxed

I'm not messy as such, but I'm not a neat freak in any means. And I'm always up until 6 in the morning at least, so noise doesn't really bother me. Plus, alot of their friends are my friends too.. so.. yeah.

But I understand where you're coming from. biggrin

I also live in a very different living situation. My house is basically a "hotel" - it's an old Victorian that used to have three rooms but now has nine. Each tenant signs an individual lease with the landlord/landlady, we pay our own separate rent, we have our own assigned fridge and cupboard shelves, the dishes and furniture are supplied by the landlord/landlady, we all have individual locks on our doors, etc etc. So we don't share groceries or decorate together and all the maintenance (including gardening) is taken care of. Hell, we even have our own cleaning lady. It just so happens that over the years, most of my friends have moved into the house (since it's summer, only six of the rooms are taken, and five of us lived in the same dorm freshman year and we've all been hanging out since then). So we're all pretty close, but also pretty respective - and it helps that we don't have to deal with all the little things, since it's already taken care of.

Oh, that IS different. My situation is more like a family type thing where we all come together on things like bills and housework.. and the guy that owns the house is one of the male roommates.

We don't have our own shelves or anything, especially in the fridge.. it usually just conatins condiments and alcohol anyway. pout

See, I lived with three other girls in a two bedroom apartment my sophomore year of university, and while it was much more "family type" like you described, we still had our own separate food... I don't think I could stand sharing it! Anyway, I loved living with those girls - especially after the 'problem child' moved out - so I'd still pick living with girls over guys any day. But I do see what you mean.

Are you the only female in your house? That might ease things as well...

Yep biggrin It's just me and the three guys. I'm also the youngest, but not by much. I'm 23 and the guys are 24, 25 and 28. But, I've also lived with guys in the past and still I find that they are all easier to live with than women. It didn't occur to me until I stopped to think about it.. cause I used to share an apartment with my best friend, who I'd known since we were 10, and even THAT was horrible. Maybe I just don't get along well with women. LOL! I'm weird, I don't know.

This is gonna sound bad, but I do 99 percent of the cooking and cleaning in the house too. When I lived with other women, I would NEVER do such a thing. I'd bitch if it wasn't half and half. But with the guys, I don't mind it so much. (I think mainly because they don't do it as well as it should be done LOL! Bless their hearts)

Well, I don't think the guys I live with would object to me walking around naked... but I don't need to do that. LOL!

I hate living alone, I will never do it again.

I used to live with 11 other lads during my time at university in what can only be described as a basic unit. It was often a nightmare. My friend Dino got so pissed off one night after a few had come strolling in after a night out pissed that he took to throwing our only ironing board off the top floor. It broke in two, waking me up in the process.

My friend Anna pulled one of the lads called Paul one night in the student union. She used one of my Bic oranges to shave her legs in our shower before she went off to shag him. The damn thing was left there for a few months. ill

We even had to have a 'sin bin' (a cardboard box to put all dirty cutlary in-after a week it would be thrown out) in our kitchen due to the uncleanliness of certain individuals.

The 2nd years was a bit cleaner. Mind you, we had a weirdo called Austin living with us who never came out of his room. All he had in his cupboard in the kitchen was a spoon, a bowel and a box of cornflakes. I tried to experiment by putting an apple in there one morning. After coming home from a lecture, I found the apple had been taken out and left on the side! Gratitude for you! One night we had a fire drill, where I went out in my Homer Simpson slippers in the pissing rain so they got ruined sad We were all stood smoking and chatting up the girls around the way. We went into there house and I looked outside and there was fucking Austing stood out in the pissing rain like a soldier on guard! I invited him into the girls house which he refused. He even had the audacity to report us if our music was too loud to the site manager rather than confront us. I was listening to DMSR at 2 in the morning!?!?!? pissed

In conclusion, I'd heart to move in with the girls. The thought of sleep-overs and brushing each others hair sounds like heaven.

The best roommate I ever had was my very first when I was 18 in first apartment, and it was a guy. We even shared a bedroom, but it was a big one so we each had our own beds and there were even 2 closets. I've lived with mainly girls after that, and now that I've lived alone for the last 3 1/2 I can't say I'll ever go back to having a "roommate" again. Boy or girl.
