this isn't going to please you, but my gut says "well buddy, it really depends on the fantasy". neutral

but it's the nature of fantasy that you want to move to reality, even if often you don't because you're either too scared, or you're worried it will be disappointing and ruin the fantasy. different people will embrace the reality differently. me included, depending on the fantasy. so i can't give a black and white answer, i'm afraid.

infuriating, aren't i? smile

especially when you call me 'buddy'. neutral

lets say you've planned a lovely vacation in, i don't know, venice. you expect sun, certain things al fresco, gondolas and free flowing wine.

then you get there and it's dank and rainy and the water stinks.

so in that case, fantasy. yeah?

actually, that was my gut talking to me, calling me 'buddy'. smile but i can call you 'buddy' too? batting eyes

so, your example. well, holidays are quite unique because often you physically need to take a decent break (or at least, come back psychologically feeling like you have physically rested). so sometimes it doesn't matter all that much that the weather, for example, doesn't match the fantasy. and what's the alternative - sitting at home and dreaming of a holiday but never going...?

so far as holidays are concerned, i think both fantasy and reality are normally important. the fantasy is just as much fun as the holiday itself sometimes, but you need the reality too. so i don't think one is better than the other; they're both necessary.

kinda. confused

i changed my mind, i like buddy.

ok, buddy.

let's say it's a person you fantasize about, but never 'met'. they look wonderful on paper, but in reality, not what you expected. maybe they think you are all that, but you don't think the same of them. what then?

i would warn everyone to beware of relationships formed online, i don't care, MEET THE PERSON.

sure, i agree with the last bit.

the first bit you're saying that A and B have this fantasy thing going, but when they meet in reality, A is like "whatever" and B is "yeah!" - right?

well for me that's a perfect example of why subjectivity makes these sorts of things difficult. both are right, and neither could have known until reality. they could have both been, "whatever"s, or they could have both been, "yeah!"s and there was only one way to find out.

alternatively, maybe it would have been best for them not to move to reality and to stay fantastical, in retrospect. but the "in retrospect" card is a harsh card to play.

so it depends. on how much failure is feared, how much there might be to gain, and how much nobody really cares one way or the other.
