So if you want disposable furniture, hey! thats cool, but dont expect it to last more than a year.

I don't expect it to last forever. But it makes me wonder what people are doing on their sofas if they won't even last a year. wink

I started a thread like this sometime ago. I have an updated kind of crappy picture after I decorated it a bit. There are some funky shadows and the color is a bit off because there wasn't good light shining in.

The painting between all the mirrors is "Metamorphosis of Narcissus" by Dali. Not included in the picture I have twi pretty cool black and red chairs and my tv stand and tv is black so the place is starting to look pretty good.

I like your funiture Carrie. I've been meaning to visit that store soon. Perhaps this coming weekend.

So where are you moving? Is it soon going to be CarrieNorthStPaul? smile

I don't believe that for a second. Perhaps if you had kids or a bunch of roommates I could see it being ruined faster then high-end furniture, but as only one girl and a cat living in a house that thing is going to last for a while.

I like it with the rest of the stuff! Looks awesome.

And I'm just moving uptown. I love living downtown but I found an efficiency apartment that's about 3 times the size of my current place with a full size kitchen, a screened in porch, private entrance, free laundry and it's even less rent than I'm paying now. Can't pass that up!
PS- Did you really think I'd leave Mpls???

Ok, one friend, Kirtsy, bought a futon style sofa. She lived with her boyfriend. Fell to bits in about a year. Wouldnt buy a sofa from Ikea again

2nd friend, Sarah, bought a leather sofa from Ikea with her husband. Hadnt had it even a year and it is falling to bits. Plus it is really uncomfortable.

So I have had that info from 2 different sources. No kids, no animals, no wild parties. Happy now? big grin

Hey, I enjoy shopping quite a bit, and I don't even mind shopping for furniture. I just felt like IKEA was extremely...well...gay (not that there's anything wrong with that!!!) wink Really, I expected to hear Cher and Donna Summer blared over the PA.

I bought it at a pretty cool store called "Affordable Furniture" in Maplewood. It wasn't all that much money and it's honestly the most comfortable couch I've ever laid on.

You SURE he's straight? wink

Naw, its cool. I just found the place to be very gay-chic. Actually, that's a huge compliment, since I think that most gay men have WAY better taste than straight men. I readily admit that I know squat about decorating. I'm hardly the typical straight guy, but I do see the place as being geared more towards young gay men and straight women. Everything there is a low-end version of set pieces from "Sex And The City" (again, not an insult at all).

I actually did hear Cher blasting from the speakers when I was there yesterday. biggrin

But that doesn't make it gay. Where do straight men shop for furniture then? Manly-Men-R-Us? Where they stock bear skin rugs and sofas in nice manly shades like beige? giggle

lol @ the Fight Club reference!

Hey, the place has lots of great, low-cost doohickies that are quite functional. We got a great shelf for our DVDs! It was necessary to go to a place like IKEA, seeing as how we have to integrate all my stuff with hers. That place has all sorts of stuff that serves that purpose quite well.

I have to second your statement about things not always looking the same at home though. We brought home one bookcase, I got it all assembled, and it looked like CRAP!! It just didn't have the same feel in the house that it did in the store. I had to take the whole friggin' thing apart, take it back, exchange it for another, and then take the new one home in the hopes that once I got it assembled it wouldn't also look bad. Fortunately, the second one looked fantastic.

And if you can tell me where else I'll find a cute pink couch for under $300 I'd totally look into it. Pink! If I found a pink couch anywhere else it'd be at least $1000. And I'd be lucky to find it.

thumbs up! in that case....DECORATE!!!

falloff Manly-Men-R-Us sounds WAY more gay than IKEA!!!! giggle Of course, I only shop at stores where the furniture is made out of a dead-animal, or it comes in camoflauge!! wink

I'm being coy about the gay thing. I do see why so many of my gay friends love that store though. It has that gay-chic vibe, and that is cool. Gay men have SO much more style, on the whole, than straight men. Hey, I listen to my gay friends when it comes to this stuff!

Thank you, dear hug. I'm very happy with our living room. It's half-round and so we decided to choose funky colors and furniture to make it even more individual.
With a very special thank you to Tina: Is hammer already absolute, how much some people verändern...ICH hope is never so I will be! And if, then I hope that I would then have wen in my environment who joins me in the A....
