The languages of middle earth are amazing! They follow the basic rules of actual languages. Sounds like the devil's writing to me! Me or Tolkien?!!?

i love tolkien!!! he was amazing! i still remember reading the hobbit way back in school. i never read LOTR, but i bought the books when the movies came out. i still haven't finished reading them, i was too impatient and wanted to watch it on the big screen. i think PJ did an amazing job with the books, esp. considering how stinkin' huge they were!!!
my favorite characters are: 1) Samwise Gamgee. who wouldn't want a friend like that!? i loved how he stuck with frodo no matter what, and was always looking out for what was best for frodo. 2) King Theoden. such a noble king, and always did the right thing. (when he was in his right mind.) 3) Gimli. hilarious! i especially liked the humor shown between him and legolas when they were keeping score in the battles. legolas takes down that enormously huge monster and gimli comes back with "that still only counts as one!" 4) Arwen. i wish i was that beautiful! they made a good choice when they cast liv tyler for that role! 5) Aragorn. another reason i wish i was arwen! 6) Legolas. yummy! he's amazing with a bow and arrow. i'd let him watch my back any day! (he could watch my front too! ) i might as well just list all the characters, because i loved them all so much! eowyn, pippin, elrond, galandriel (though she kind of scared me a little too!), merry, gandalf, frodo, boromir, etc, etc. the only one i didn't like, and kept thinking "why don't they just smack him around or something!" was Denethor, Boromir and Faramir's father. he was so hateful, and so mean. and an idiot in the battle!

Heehee Same here. As a young kidster (8 to 13) I was a bit fanatic and read ALL he ever wrote and then his son's continuations, which I did not like that much. I am geeky enough to have re-editions of The Hobbit and the three seperate editions of TLotR because they are 50's style...and the editions with Alan Lee's drawings.

Loved Lord Of The Rings when I first read it many many years ago, and I still do. I loved the
movies too, I think Peter Jackson did an incredible job bringing an almost unfilmable story to the big screen. I'm really looking forward to the extended edition of Return Of The King on DVD. Having now seen a few bits of footage from it, I know it's gonna rule! roll on December.

Got to say, the Fellowship of the Ring in particular is a great book. The Two Towers and the Return of the King are (in my humble, irrelevant view) not of the same standard. But they made great films.

I love Tolkien, I read the LOTR just a short while before the movie was released, I think it's better to read it first because you get your own interpretation rather than Peter Jacksons. The imagrey and desriptions in the book are good enough not need any real visual aid. Saying that I loved the movies, I think Peter did an amazing job, much, much better than what I expected (and the old budget cartoon lol). There were a few bits I would have liked to have seen in the movie like the barrowdowns and tom bambodil (I can't remeber the exact name, I read it a while ago) but still 9 hours is still a constraint for the book
There's this pub in town where Tolkien used to hang out at all the time with CS Lewis (I think it was Lewis, Im not sure I always get him mixed up with someone else), Its so cool being able to chill in the same pub where Tolkien used to go, they a few pictures of his up, and some letters that he wrote too. It seems to be busier tourists with since the films were releasedso I don't go there often now. I heard it's very unlikely Jackson will be able to do The Hobbit, something to do with the rights, but Ian McKellen said there may be a chance of a play in the West end. I doubt anything will get done though at least not for quite a few years, I hope I'm wrong though because 'the hobbit' is a great book too.

Yep Im in Oxford, Eagle and Child is so nice but it's a bit of a walk from the rest of town, but all the other old pubs have been re-done to look like wine bars so it makes for a nice change. I went to a couple of the quiz nights but I was awful lol
