Beans on Toast

Why do British people love beans on toast so very much?

The subject has mystified me for years.

I used to ask just about every British person I'd ever met if they liked beans on toast. And you'd just see their faces come to life.

Almost all replied:

"Yes, isn't it lovely!"

Yes, it seems that at one time, the makers of "beano" sent Prince Charles a free carton of it, because he suffered from gas. He must enjoy beans on toast with Camilla, in his rare private moments.

Are "natural gas" problems common in the UK?

4 slices of toast, one can of Heinz Baked Beans. drool Simple, cheap, satisfying.

I saw some baked beans in the Tesco here the other day (yes, they have Tesco in Bangkok) but they didn't look too appetizing. The Heinz imported ones were too expensive. I bought a bottle of vodka instead.

I love the way Americans turn their noses up when us Brits talk about baked beans on toast.

Um, fast food capital of the world? Number one source of obese kids stuffing their faces full of crapola? disbelief

I love beans on toast but it is the end of the month meal when i have spent all my wages apart from £20 in change knocking about the house, and the money is really needed to go on alcohol to help me forget the fact i am poor!

yay for cheap and cheerful beans on toast! biggrin
